Hi everyone, so I am getting a new baby golden retriever puppie next week. Was looking for some good dog names that have to do with the boundary waters. So far what we have come up with is: Ely, Sawbill, Ida and Juno. Any other ideas? Please and Thank you!

PS...It is a female

Did the same thing for my two cats. Settled on Minnesota (Minnie) and Gabimichigami (Gabi). Should have seen the look on my vets face when he said can you spell that.

My dog is named Wenonah.

Not sure I would recommend it. Doesn’t yell very well when you're calling your dog!

Shithead. Oh wait, you asked for BW related...my bad. I just couldn’t resist a chance to reference The Jerk. I always thought “Slim” or “Trillium” would be cool dog names.

And if you take your dog to the BW and have to call him, people will think you’re calling your canoe. And they really don’t come.

On the Quetico side, you could use Kenzie, for Mackenzie Lake.

My brother named his dog sema after a lake between knife and kekekabic.

Our dog is named Echo after the Echo Trail.

Our soon to be born son is going to have a bwca inspired 1st name.

Good luck coming up with a name. There are a lot of bwca lakes with girl names.

I think Mudro would be a fine name for a dog. It could work for a duckling too.

We rescued 2 Siberian Huskys from a shelter. Their previous names were unknown. So they became Ely and Quetico. No one could ever pronounce Quetico correctly.
Ely is on the left and Quetico the right. Anyone who was at the early Rockford camp outs has met them.

Had a dog named Aspen, I always liked that name.

I swear I remember an old thread on this, but I can’t find it. I thought I may have even started the thread. My memory is terrible. Anyway, my dogs are always named after something in nature. Badger, Willow, Grizzly Bear, Bear for short. Mine are golden retrievers as well. I’ve always wanted a BWCA/canoeing inspired dog name. But I haven’t been able to settle on one. Get a big map showing all of the BECA and find a lake name you like. Maybe a favorite lake you’ve been to. Here are s few names on my list:

Minnow -this will be my next female dog.
Otter
Widgeon
Pike
Lark
Buck -but this sounds like something else when you yell it.
Moose
Rocky
Ranger

My actual list is much longer, but it’s at work. I’m curious to see what others have as ideas.

I don't know I could see someone standing around yelling echo, echo with no response, then someone else would give it a try and say there's no damn echo here.....

Our Chessie is "Cache" -- wanted a BW name, and to honor her predecessor who made countless BW trips over her lifetime, one included traversing Cache Bay of Sag.

I adopted a Boarder Collie/ Lab mix. She was going to be my canoeing buddy. I named her Tilley. Yes after my hat. We don't canoe much. She likes being in the water not riding on the water.

My long lost boy's AKC name was "Zachary Gunflint Webb" since the Gunflint was our second home back in the '90's. I miss him so badly when I look through these pictures!
