Wondering if there would be any one interested in a winter wing campout? People could snowshoe, ice fish if by a lake, have a fire, cross country ski and share winter camping ideas. It would be just a matter of finding a place to do it and how far people would travel, I'm open for suggestions if anyone one is interested share your opinions, thanks and have a great holiday season.

I would be intrested, I have a hot tent but no stove, so something in March would be more to my liking.
But I'm open to anything.

Open to a get together. I feel somewhere there is real winter (not the twin cities) would be good say Sawbill lake or Gunflint side would be best. February is a good month as the major cold has moved on and longer daylight persists.

Does a hot tent without a stove still qualify as a hot tent? :)

Maybe it’s stolen so it’s hot?

Sawbill would be a good location, will be there the 23rd of this month, but late February or March would be good, give people time to plan for it.

Good one... if you steal a tent they are much “warmer”!
Mark, you’ll have to share your heater. Great idea though... good place to share ideas and possibly benefit everyone. Plus have fun... (or be bored) haha...

I'll check Lisa's work weekends for Feb and March then I'll post some weekend dates to see what will work for people.

Hey there you winter campers, I would be happy to host a winter camping event at my cabin. I have property for tenting, a cabin for those who are less inclined to freeze, lake, and hopefully more snow as the winter progresses. My cabin is north east of Grand Rapids, MN - a little south of Scenic State Park off of Scenic 7 highway.
There is plenty of outdoor space for tents and in the heated cabin there would is a variety of sleeping configurations - available would be: 1 king, 2 queen, 1 double and one single bed, lots of floor space for sleeping bags, as well as 2 1/2 baths and outhouse. I am on Gunn Lake.
Let me know if you are interested in a February event - weekend tied to even some week days for us retired folks. I was thinking Friday, Saturday, Sunday - Feb. 1,2,3 or 15,16,17 or March 1,2,3 with some week day over lap if interested.

Sounds like an interesting proposition.
I'm game, but I'll leave it up to housty and others.

GrannyL has a lot of good hiking nearby her place... especially if you run out of gas on the way. Haha. I think Scenic has trails and several county trails.

You are correct Ben. We should work on our "recovering adventurer" plan. We can sit by the fire and watch them all out in the cold or zoom past the hikers on the 4 wheeler, Haha....All kidding aside - my place has lots of hiking right there as well as the State Park and Chippewa National Forrest.
We could always give up on the winter tenting and just have a party weekend.

What kinds of hammock and underquilt do you have?

Plenty of great trees, close to the house, or in the woods. The family "hangs" under the tree house - not far from the big fire ring.

I have a Dutchware Chameleon hammock with 20 degree Hammock Gear Econ quilts. The coldest I have used them was at about 20 degrees. Stayed warm except my feet.

if you'd like to have it there that's fine, will be there depending on Lisa's work schedule, I'll plan one down the road at sawbill or next year.

Let's wait until after Christmas to put dates to this event - when more schedules and free time might be available. And, Ben might be mended and ready for an adventure.

I'm pretty new here, and maybe this an old thread, but thought I'd share this event. First weekend of Feb in northern WI. It's a good time, I went last year and met really great people! There's a FB page and this link: Winter Camping Rendezvous

I will turn on my SPOT so you can watch me as I fall in the ditch. They are making me wait for the rest of the old gals and travel on Friday afternoon - so I will have company if I run into trouble. One of the "kids" might just drive up in his plow truck to help out.

I’ve been camping out in my shack for fifteen plus years... I’m ready to be in a house! Soon, baby soon!
