How many of you have gone to fast food places before you have left for the BWCA and grabbed katchup/mustard/mayo/tartar sause packets along with salt and pepper as well? Is there anywhere else that you have gone to get something else (relish ect)??? I mentioned in another post that i have gone to taco bell and got some hot sause as well. Do any of you do the same??
I went to a Long John Silver's last spring with hopes that I could buy some packs of tartar sauce for a BW trip. When I told the young lady behind the counter what I wanted, she looked at me funny and said, "We don't do that, but you can have some. How much do you want?" I said I wanted alot. She put about 3 or 4 handfuls in a bag, handed it to me and said "Have a nice day". I put a couple bucks on the counter and walked out. When I got home I counted over 70 packs.

I have a zip lock bag in my freezer at home that I throw the packets in. I just sort of collect throughout the year. I think they are good for solo trips especially. I really don't use them much but it is amazing the number of condiments that come that way.
One year on the way up it was just my teenage son and I remembered that I had forgotten the spice kit. We stopped at Burger King on the way up so we grabbed a lot of salt & pepper packets. That was enough for our short trip.
I grab a few extra here and there like Bannock. Although last fall when we took a large group, I just asked the kid at the Holiday gas station. He told me to take as many as I needed. That was cool.
My guess is that you could buy these packets at Sam's Club or Costco. I'm not a member of those places so I don't know for sure.
If you buy the packets at Sam's Club, you will get about 1000 for the ketchup packets I believe. Try minimus.biz. I did last year for peanut butter packets and squeeze cheese. I would order from them again. I have also picked up sauce packets from Arby's, and Taco Bell.
that is a good website. I have browsed it and have found many things that i will be buying for my next trip. i will stick to getting the katchup/mustard/mayo/relish/bbq sause/tartar sause from the local stores (5 finger discount). Also look at perkins or any breakfast place for Jelly and honey. But peanut butter would be something i would buy. Thanks for sharing that website!!!!
We always have 6-8 guys in our group, so we generally take a small to medium size plastic bottle of whatever condiment is needed for the meal, and use the whole thing that meal. Alot easier than 3 dozen little packets of ketchup and tartar sauce for fish and fry nite.
I always try to use small packets so I can vac seal everything for a meal in one small package. Spices added to dry meal if possible as well. No fumbling or fussing to find condiments.
i'll say no..i took honey packs some years ago but they were too much of a hassle --not much in them and messy..i save salt packs and put one in with a pasta based meal to salt the boiling water..
That is how I've always brought ketchup, mustard, salt and pepper. Same as Bannock. The soy sauce is a good idea. Next trip I'm bringing butter too for fish frys. No more crisco. Too bulky and a real mess to clean up. I've also grabbed them on the way up at McDonalds like Bannock. Putting them in the freezer ahead of time makes sense.
Phisherman..."I got several packets of Gulden's spicy brown mustard from our local Panera last year. Delicious! Little tiny mouth orgasams!" I love Gulden's too....but a 'mouth orgasm'? Too funny. LOL, LOL

Yup. Taco Bell taco sauce for the breakfast burritos. Also get mayo, which would spoil pretty quick otherwise. And for those bad scandinavians - the "no refrigerate" liquid coffee creamer in those small couple oz peel top tubs. Last time nabbed a few at the Coho restaurant just before Lutsen on the way to Brule.
bumabu...is this salsa like your typical salsa, or is it more like Taco Bell's hot sauce?
I love those steak burritos at McD's, but never add salsa...I'm looking for salsa and didn't know where to get it...this is a good excuse for me to get a steak burrito or two. ;-)

I noticed recently that at least one of the fast-food joints is charging for extra condiments.
In the past, when I offered to pay for the extra packets the clerks had no idea how to ring it up in the computer so they just gave them to me for free.

Gordon Food Service is a good place as they cater to restaurants and sell condiments in large packs. not sure where they have stores. Check out restaurant supply stores. Condiments for your mouth orgasms.
Also, we especially like Justins nut butters, single serve - no mess:
Of course. We eat Chicken Soft Shell Tacos for one dinner each trip. Gotta have some hot sauce and Taco Bell's little packets are perfect for the meal.
It's only a spot on the map... until you go there.
I keep the left over packets from our fast food runs but check the dates before you take them on a trip. We were on day three in the BW and I was making tuna salad with fresh celery that I had kept in a small softsided cooler. (It is so nice to have something cool and crunchy to eat for lunch.) I had just cut up the celery, added the tuna and began to open the packets of mayo - first one white, second brown, third brown, forth brown - yes the mayo was bad and one packet didn't make tuna salad! So make sure to check the dates on them before you take them along. Thanks Bannock I will start keeping them in the freezer also!
I found lemon juice in packets at Subway the other day. Hadn't seen them elsewhere so thought I'd mention it for all the other packet-seekers out there.

Wisdom is sold in a desolate market where no one can come to buy.
Panera and Boston Market week before trip - lost of packets. Some Culvers have A1. Found a bunch of Newman's Own Balsamic Vinegarette packets recently - nice on wild rice salad.
I ask "mind if I take a few of these" and they say fine so I don't think it's stealing - especially when I buy stuff there.
I ended up just buying a small squirt bottle of honey. We're not doing a real BW trip this year (basecamping at Fenske Lake and doing day trips) so the risk of it getting squashed and making a huge mess is minimal. However, I did find honey packets at the HyVee grocery store in the deli/restaurant area (putting this here to help others, even though I didn't take any). Thanks for the tip, MOGirl! One of our breakfasts is going to be peanut butter-honey-granola roll ups. Sounds delicious and easy. Also I figure a good snack for the kids will be honey on tortillas, with or without peanut butter. Whole wheat tortillas, of course. ;-)

Target may have some goodies, too. The one by me has 1.5 oz. packets of Ranch dressing, mustard, ketchup, salt, pepper, and little containers of BBQ sauce and a honey mustard dipping sauce. The Ranch packets are good for some of the Freezer Bag Cooking meals.

someone upthread was talking about no expiration dates on mayo packets. I found the same on ranch dressing packets. I found a couple from last year and there is no date anywhere that I can find. I'll bet it's because the date was on the box that they came in and that they are not for individual sale (though now that I say this, I don't recall seeing that on there, either). If I have extras after a trip, I will put the date I got them on with a sharpie, or just toss them right then. Perhaps year-old ranch dressing in a sealed pouch is fine, but how would I know until I got out there and opened it? Annoying.
