Seems I read of a store mentioned here in western suburbs of Chicago that specialized in smoked meats - no refrigeration needed. I can't find that post. Anyone recall? Thanks.

Sorry I am not from your area, but I am a meat smoker, both hot and cold smoking. I know our HyVee store here carries a peperoni and a hard salami that needs no refrigeration. If you have a HyVee, check them out. Also, I would surely check out some of the many rural butcher shops as most of them should carry something that suits your needs. In fact, I would opt for the rural butcher first as ingredients are usually better and fillers are a minimum. If your a hunter or know of any hunters, see where they take their deer for processing. I can guarantee you with a little searching, you will find a place.

Play in the outdoors every chance you get, because the day may come when you can't.

If traveling through Two Harbors theres a smoke house on the north side of the road looks like a log cabin. Also a smoke house in Grand Marais.

I see the light at the end of the tunnel, I hope its not a train. "Cracker"

There is a small shopping mall in Chinatown at Archer and Wentworth that has a great grocery store on the east side. Besides having live frogs and turtles, they have various smoked meats hanging over the meat counter. There are also many very good restaurants in the mall while you are there. I personally recommend Happy Chef.

Paulina Meat Market. They have an assortment of smoked meats. Also, anything else you'd like get from a butcher.

Brother and I usually get a mixed bag of items.
