That is where we are planning to go next summer .... west into the Kawishiwi River. Slow easy trip. Not into the numbers lakes. Never been that way before. Just curious on any good campsites or fishing advice. Thanks.

Disappointment Lake 2010 on a beautiful day!!

I think it was the Fall or Summer issue of the Boundary Waters Journal last year, had a campsite review of that route. I have never went that way, but it is on my bucket list.

Never been that way, but did a double-take on the picture, which has an eerie similarity to this 9/2010 photo of my brother on Quadga Lake. Hope you have a nice trip.

I did the Triangle with a group of teenagers last summer. I enjoyed the route a lot. I love the small lake, river combination. The only spot on the route that I felt crowded was on Clear. We went SW first down towards Gabbro, then NW to Clear, them E back to Lake One. That way the only long portage was towards the end.

I went that direction in 1977 with a group of teens. A number of little rapids the first day, and we managed to get spun around and I went thru one backwards, in a Whitewater II, which has a very low stern. We made it. About the only thing I can offer you is to read the map carefully...we took a part of the river that ended up a walk...should have gone the longer way around, and should have known it...the portages were on the other side (coming from the north towards Little Gabbro). We went on thru to Bald Eagle and then Clearwater and north from there, now a PMA, but many here have said still passable.

BW Journal wrote up this route several years ago, and it has had a lot of paddlers since. Very pretty.

I agree with Kevlar, read the map carefully for the white water sections.

I did this route solo in May a few years ago and it was a great one. Scenic, fun and most pleasant. I posted a trip report

here

I do remember my last campsite was the very last one on the right shore just before exiting the BW. It was very nice. Grassy and lots of firewood. Little used, I suspect, because everyone passes it by on their way out.

Have a great one.

Great route, I do pieces of it every year on my annual solo/car camping trip at the Fall Lake Campground. Last year when I was there the route seemed to be especially popular. Not sure if it was the BWJ article or because it was really windy and people were bailing out of heading into the bigger water of the numbered lakes.

Nice campsites all along the route. A couple of especially good ones are the island site right before the north/south split, the site along the portage to Conchu Lake (on the river side, not the Conchu Lake side), and the second to last one (I think) going down the south branch before you get to the portage to Clear. It's next to a short set of rapids.

Good smallie and walleye fishing below a lot of the rapids you portage around.

If you want some really detailed info, just send me an email.

We enjoyed site 1411 (see the map section) at the north east corner of the Kawishiwi Triangle. It's a beautiful area - and decent fishing too.

Fish below any rapids or narrow water in the evenings or morning. This will not be heavy fishing trip but a great camping trip with some fishing.
Good trip- done it loved it.

Alpine 525, I was looking for where that campsite (1411) is and when I type in that site number it shows up on Kekekabic lake. We are heading out on the Kawishiwi River Labor Day and were also wondering about any possible fishing suggestions.

Thanks!
