I noticed that Batista lake has an established campsite, but seems off the beaten path. I was curious if anyone has ever been there before. What shape is the campsite in? Is there a portage into the lake? Any fish to be had?

My son and I tried going there back in 2002
Found the creek, it is easy enough to find-it is full of boulders, deadfall and little paddleable water. We started walking the creek bed and decided against the attempt.
I know a couple of others who thought about it and decided against it also.
If you go please post what it was like and a picture of the lake and portage in. It will be a lot of work.

Thanks for the replies barley and bogwalker. If the fishing isn't happening on stuart, I may be trekking back there for a day trip just to see what it is like. I think it is strange that no one has been there, when there use to be at least one established site. My fisher map doesn't show a site but the maps on this site do, and so does the voyager maps.

2016 update - paddled the Dahlgren in high water, April 2016. Was curious about Batista too - my old MacKenzie map from '98 shows a site.
Viewing from the Dahlgren there might have been a flow but from the get-go it wasn't floating anything larger than a beaver. We didn't attempt to bushwhack it.

I'm very intrigued as well. I've been up that way many times and never gave it a second glance and then I saw on an older map that there is a campsite there. I wonder if the site was damaged by the fire that happened there in 2012? I'll be up there in June and again in October and I may try to day trip over and check it out. Water levels/temps may be better in June. I can't believe nobody on this site knows anything about this lake. ??
