So every year when I get back from Canada I take a quick picture of the lures that I caught fish on...here are the 2010 lures. Anyone else do anything like this? Makes it a bit easier to whittle down the list from year to year based on what works/didn't.

I would have kept using the one that worked so I would have a picture of a blue and white Rapala...every trip.

Nope...its all locked in my fish-bone head for the seasons to come.

That is 156 hooks. Hard to tell, but looks like they have barbs.

I thought BWCA required barbless hooks and a max of one treble hook per lure.

Fly-in trip just west (but outside) of Quetico...outside the park by about 4 miles. While it's not in Quetico, I figured it's close enough to have the lure selection still be relevant to The Q & BWCA. I'll be pinching some barbs come July!

You're thinking of Quetico on the barbless hooks requirement. I know of no rule regarding number of treble hooks.

Looks like I was wrong on that. Nevertheless, barbless is the way to go, especially if using treble hooks. Much safer for fish and people.

My bro keeps a shadow box containing lures that are his personal"hall of fame". Cool memories...lures of note: Bagley Crawdad(crank, has no paint!), Terminator Spinnerbait(1/2oz.), and a Zaragossa in green crackle back(hooks changed many times)...
good times

When I first saw your photo I thought maybe it was for insurance purposes.

And what did you catch with those? Were you targeting Bass? Or anything else?

Smallmouth, Walleye, Northern Pike. The water was very low so the Baby 1-Minus and the topwaters were the go-to for bass. Didn't include plastics on the picture but we also did quite well with Zoom flukes and tubes. Biggest pike actually ane on a tube/6lb test (14lbs) as well as a lake sturgeon on the same setup. Deep Taildancers, Minnow Raps and DT10 were the main Walleye lures.

Buddy of mine does something similar, when he "retires" a lure. He'll take a little piece of wood, stain it, an put a mini nameplate on it with the years that he use the lure. Then he'll attach the lure to the wood like a little fish mount. He's got a handful of them in his office.

This was the best smallmouth fly last year. Pike were around so we had to use a leader. Todd's Wiggle Minnow before and after:

That's awesome...whenever my buddies ask about the trip, I'll just toss them a beat up Rapala and smile. You know you're on them when your leader looks like that. Buddy of mine and I have coined a term for leaders that are beat from catching so many fish.....Werewolf Pubes.

Sometimes, just a single pike will do that to the leader, but this day was almost all smallies. Those are durable flies too. We were exhausted from catching them that day. They kept biting on that fly, otherwise we would have replaced it with something that looked better to us! We caught fish after fish, all topwater, from 8:30 - 2:30. At that point, we had a long paddle to camp and we had caught so many that we did not care to continue. I have not had many days like that. Average size ~15 inches - no dinks but no 20 inchers either.

I think thats a great practice you've developed of taking photos of the lures that produced. Very nice, great idea. So here's another question: those were the "winners" how much additional tackle did you have along that did not produce or you simply didn't get around to using?

Love the sturgeon pick, great catch !

The first time I fished with a zaragossa, I was just running it along the side of the boat to see its action and it got nailed by a pike, Imagine my surprise :-0
