Great job Jan. What an accomplishment to be proud of. Good read and photos.

Thanks for taking me along on your tropic.
Do you keep your pen and paper handy? Where? I found on my trip last weekend that I wanted to write stuff down right when it happened, but didn't want to sit and do it later. If I had had it handier I may have done just that. I also wanted a watch. I wonder how long it took me to do my hiking.

That trip had a little bit of everything and was an interesting read. I don't envy the wind troubles but would love to try something like that myself someday, God willing. I'm thinking the group of guys you ran into and spent some time with would be a real welcome moment during a long solo trip. Looks like quite a group - Elvis especially. Thanks for sharing your trip, your thoughts and your humor in this report!

Jan, can I request there be a "Story Time With Jan" at wingnight? We will set up the chairs and you can be the guest speaker.
This was a great trip report but I find myself wanting to hear more!
I LOL really hard when I read the "Leave my Sh!t alone!" part. I have the first need and could so picture that hose, now sprinkler shooting out.
I am very happy for you being able to accomplish THE trip.

I really enjoyed the video clips with narration - added a great perspective to the report.
If you do story time at wing night - can someone video, pretty please??
Got any observations on what your outfit did well and what you'd change next time? Were you glad you took the chair? HOW DID YOUR FOOD last?
Thanks for sharing Jan - it was really really fun to watch your progress and imagine what you were seeing.

Awesome Jan! Great photos! Was right there with you during those wind video's. I am sure they don't do justice to what you had to endure. You are one brave soul and I commend you on an adventure of a lifetime.
So looking forward to hearing more at Wingnight!

Had the same snow/sleet thing happen at home. I was thinking of you then. The videos were a good addition to your report. Glad you included a little humor and all. Welcome back and see ya at Wing Night. First thing I thought when you were on the Chat the other night is Am OK!

Awesome Jan! You did somewhere north of 150 miles and did around 40 portages. Not a trip for the meek and mild. I'm sure you inspired many to try this route or at least add it to the dream or bucket list.

THE Trip is a very appropriate title. Wow Jan, I am totally impressed. Consider yourself blessed to have been given the opportunity to do this. Thanks to you, I can't wait for my next solo adventure.
Great narrative, pictures and videos in the report. BTW, the beard is a good look for you. Still have it?

Enjoyed reading your report, Jan. What an adventure!
But I don't agree that THE Trip is a good title. Because you will have to top it (you don't think so now, perhaps, but I think I know you well enough to predict that you will, in time, have to top it) and then what on earth will you call that one?? LOL!!
Great trip. Glad you are safe from all of that and able to share it with us. And glad that you had so many satisfying moments.
Beautiful photos--it seemed odd to see Curtain Falls with so little water. We have always been there in the spring.

I actually like your sparse writing style. Makes for quick read, captures your emotions well and lets me fill in the blanks with my imagination. I bet you're still thinking about it and running through things in your mind.

Way to go Jan! Can't wait to here the 'rest of the story!'
Joy is a great teacher, but so is dispair. Wonder is a great teacher, but so is confusion. Hope is a great teacher, but so is disillusionment. And life is a great teacher, but so is death. To deny yourself any of those in any aspect is not experiencing life totally.

That's quite the trip. Battling wind is a bear ain't it? I know exactly what you mean when you say "white knuckle". I only had a fraction of the wind problems that you had though. It can get pretty hairy out on big water knowing that if you dump it will be a long ways to shore.
I would also like to know more about your food. Were there any items you could have left home? And how'd that seat treat your butt? Cool video too. Thanks for the report.

the gel seat helped much, i just had to stop once an hour or so to recenter the gel in the seat (per instructions), and the instructions were right on...that must be done.
all other gear worked well. i am glad i took the campstool
food? im off the MH bandwagon now...i had to force myself to eat it. ill be back to the knorrs and additives plan next trip. im going to take cheese next time too and softshells again. clifs builders bars are really good, they will be packed again. packed too many cashews and pistacios. i only had 4 cups of coffee the entire trip but the coffee didnt weigh much.
glad i packed 2 sets of long johns. first set got soaked on the basswood river portages...it was raining and i preferred getting wet from rain to getting wet from sweat.
my big water (waves) paddling skills really improved on this trip...i now know my absolute limitations.
learned much this time around. ill learn more next time too.

Great report! I cashed out from Kawnipi and came back through Agnes on my attempt at this route. I did the Man chain to the Sag, highly recommended.
You inspire me to make the effort again, and to stick with it. And to take a chair. :-)

Good report. It was fun running into you on the Falls Chain. I was sorry we didn't think to take a picture at the time. We thought about you in the following days of rougher weather, and when we got home and saw via Spot that you were windbound. Smart to play it safe in those conditions!

I'm just going to steal Erin's words. Ditto to everything she said.
Loved the mixed media method for the report. although some names near some of the photos would have been appreciated.

Good to read your report kanoes. I only made it to Wet lake portage, then decided there wouldn't be enough water to do McEwen to Louisa and backtracked. Thought about you on the windy days, snowy days and rainy days. Sounds like you had a good trip anyway...and fast!

nice to meet you. that was probably a good decision...the water was so low up there.

Extremely enjoyable read. As I am catching up on my reading I knew this would be a good one, and I was right on.
Your pictures were terrific and placed well, but movies too? We may have to start a Director's award with the number of reports that are including that great feature.
Jan, a nicely done report, where I admit, originally thinking that you had limited options to bail if so inclined, for any reason. But, you enjoyed it all and have a great experience to recall, although I hope your next one will have a bit less wind.
Thanks for sharing.
