I'm thinking about a trip next winter. I'd love to fish pike on Basswood. Or, any other BWCA dogsled over-night trip for any species of fish on any lake and am looking for recommendations.

I think a trip to Knife Lake would be great.

There is a dogsled outfitter out of the Ely area that specializes on northern pike on Basswood. The name is Slaughter(sp ?)

I'm reviving this thread because I would like to plan a dog sledding/ice fishing/camping trip either this winter or next. It seems the web site for Bill Slaughter is gone. Is he still in business? Does anyone know of other great outfitters? I have never been dog sledding, have never been winter camping, but I'm an avid ice fisherperson.

I know Murphy does a lot of lake trout trips on the Knife by Dorthy Molters Islands. I only know Murphy from when we skiied in and he would stop and talk to us while dog sledding-seemed real friendly. Wintergreen would also be a good one. They all are probably pretty decent?
Check around for prices etc.

Call Basswood Bob's Guide Service out of Ely. We used him for freight hauling to Knife Lake twice.

Bill Slaughters Northwoods Guide Service. He is still around. I used Bill many years ago on a guided trip. Cooks a very good shore lunch also.
