OK... I have to admit that I have absolutely no experience with this item but found this very interesting piece (review) on it...

One word of caution that I will throw out after reading the article above... she mentions that PB2 has 85% less fat calories than the regular peanut butter, another of the packages pictured says low fat low cal... if that is true than I would be less excited about bringing it on my trip as the whole reason I bring PB on trips is for the fat calories which = energy.

If you don't need the extra calories or long burning energy and just want it along for a treat, then the powdered PB would certainly be lighter!

Kinda a related post. A quote from one of my favorite humorists, Steven Wright. "I just bought some powdered water, but I don't know what to add." Sorry...I thought it's funny.

we just bring the PB along for a treat....would be interesting to try this stuff but on the other hand im thinking it would be a lot messier having to mix it then clean it up later. easier to just bring the small containers ive brought in the past. they have a pack of 6 (i think) and they are a perfect size to make a sandwich or two.
thanx for the info tho.

and yes powdered water...that was funny. :o)

I have been using PB 2 for a little over 3 1/2 years. I put it into chocolate protein powder for a drink that tastes like a peanut butter cup. I use it for more protein and less fat. I had gastric bypass and I now need high protein. I also put it into instant oatmeal.

If you mix it up for a spread, it tastes like real peanut butter, not like the low fat stuff.

They also sell one that has chocolate in it, but I do not like it.

One Hy Vee's in our area has it, and the one on the other side of town does not. Its in the organic isle. I have never ordered it form the company but have looked at their web site several times and seems like they are always out of it.

My canoe buddy brought some powdered peanut butter along on our last trip. Ugh! It was a big mess and really lousy taste. I'm a BIG peanut butter fan. I'll happily pack the weight for the real thing!

I'd stick with Jiff or Skippy...we found Jiff small containers at our grocery store recently. Or we hit up diners/restaurants and get their little packets.

It might not be weight conscious, but I always take a small jar of peanutbutter. It is used occasionally through the trip and is a good calorie booster if needed.

Even when I was in the Army, I usually had a jar in the field, just in case. You never knew if chow was getting to you and what condition it would be when it got there. Of course, I was usually motorized.

Peanut butter in a camp tube, along with another one of honey has fueled many a camping trip.

The powdered stuff is best left as a powder to add for flavoring in another dish. Adding it to oatmeal isn't half bad. I friend did a sweet dish that was instant oat meal, chocolate powder and peanut butter that really hit the spot on a cool evening after the death march from hell in search of tiny trout

I'd also bring the full-fat (mostly heart-healthy anyway) PB, which is actually very weight-conscious when considered on a calories-per-ounce basis. I prefer the natural peanut butter (Smuckers - just peanuts & salt) without added sugar or fats.

I have used the PB2 product for fat and calorie savings. In my opinion the flavor/consistency really suffers. As others mentioned, its better as an add in to other things such as cold chocolate drinks, hot chocolate and oatmeal. It isnt anything close to the real stuff, which I like WAY TO MUCH.

Minnesotian commented in the "Listening" forum that they used the powdered PB to make an amazing peanut curry while camping.

I am hoping they will comment further as to the other ingredients, but thought I would at least put the idea here for others wondering about ways to utilize this product.

greenydd,

I have purchased it, and tried it. You add water and then mix.
I think one part water, 1 part PB powder. It is "OK" but not as creamy and nice as the real thing. I decided NOT to take on trips, as then have to mess with mixing the darn stuff. So How do you do this in a simple way on the trail? So I opted out.
I will not be using it, If it was ME, I would not waste my time.
It is expensive, and a pain in the butt.
