First night dinner thread
This is a first night dinner thread...within a thread. So many ideas.
We do seasoned steaks, frozen. Sautéed peppers & onions, frozen. Loaded mashed potatoes from Idahoan. Yummo.

when your setting up camp after a long days paddle (venison)sausage and cheese is simple and good, cut a chunk off as you walk by :) as far as a meals goes it all depends how heavy you pack. either noodles or whatever potatos you like for a side dish and if no fish ??? pork chops-steak-burgers(in a basket grill)bought in flat bread last trip worked out very good. or sandwich steaks between flat bread....
keep your line wet, good things will happen

When we started out in 1971 Spartan1 said that the first-night dinner was always supposed to be "steak and oranges". So that was always what we did. Some years we went in to Zup's and had them individually wrap some steaks for us the day before and put them in the freezer, or would buy individually wrapped steaks somewhere and freeze them if possible. Wrap in newspaper and then put in a Zip-lock bag (we don't take a cooler) and they were fine on the first night. Some nice, big navel oranges, too. And that was usually it for the first night.
When Spartan1 was on the kidney diet we couldn't do that, as he could only have 3 ounces of meat, and no citrus fruits at all. So for 16 years we had to do something very different. After the transplant we went back to it for a couple years, but somehow it just didn't seem like as much fun as originally, and we don't always do it anymore.

Bojiboil ~ This will be our first nights meal
1.Fill up a big pot with water and put it on to boil
2.Add a bottle of beer and a bag of “Crab Boil” spices (or a ton of Old Bay) and some crushed red pepper
3.Throw in some potatoes and let them cook a while
4.Add several ears of freshly shucked corn, cut in half, and let those cook a while
5.Throw in some big chunks of smoked sausage, halved lemons, and lastly, fresh shrimp

But do you then have to carry in a pot big enough for all that?
