Reading these posts has lessened the winter stress. Nice refuge and wonderful inside from you all.
Winter camping is a tremendously liberating experience. I have done 3 BWCA trips so far. Love the visceral and emotional benefits from the intimate contact with nature.
This late February my small group will again venture out to the God's Country. We have fished during previous trips. Caught a trout or two. Nothing major. Do you have any suggestions for Lake Trout Fishing Trip.
A lake that is accessible in the winter, has Lake Trout and could be reached in a half a day of a snowshoe travel. We are experienced in no tent camping.
Cheers to all. Spring is just around the corner:)

Tuscarora, should be a fairly easy trip in by now as there will be a packed trail. Great fishing and scenery.

Two years ago we camped on Tuscarora. Beautiful lake and the portage was a great hiking experience. We caught 3 fish. kept two for dinner.
I would prefer to entertain other option to see new area.
Thanks brantlars.

We are planning Tuscarora in a couple weeks - hopefully an easier pull than Clearwater was in January the morning after a foot of snow fell. Want to keep seagull in mind for next year - is there a good place to park and access the lake - if so which entry point?

We are going into Duncan EP. any advise as far as the winter travel?
Partrige will be my to get to lake. My group was reassured after I shared Minnesotian compiled EP winter access availability.
This forum always comes through. Thank you guys.
Any special advisory about reaching Duncan from West Bearskin.
Dan your advise was solid. Thank you.

definitely take hungry jack road to the southern shore of bearskin where there is a nice little parking lot as opposed to taking clearwater and walking the length of bearskin (no good parking down there either). you can also access duncan from moss-and there is a portage/snowmobile trail that crosses the same road (hungry jack) maybe a mile earlier (its a fairly steep up and over portage). moss is technically outside the bwca and sees snowmobile traffic but also has some trout in it.
btw there will likely be packed snowmobile trails leading across bearskin to both the duncan and daniels portages.
both hungry jack and clearwater roads have been pretty well groomed on my trips to the area which is nice since i am currently resigned to driving a front wheel drive hatchback with no ground clearance.
email me if you have any questions!
