I am unable to go to Quetico this year, but not a total loss, as I'm doing a fly in trip in Manitoba with My father (71).

But, I am going in next year, early, and it's never too early to think things through. I have been through North Bay several times, but I've never stopped to fish there. I have a newbie who will be turning 13 next summer and I was thinking about a not too difficult trip for his inauguration. Does anyone know if North Bay is a good place to target Walleyes?

TBL Shoot me an email and I will share what I can. The last fishing trip I went on with my dad was a fly-in in Northern Ontario. We had a great time. He is now 85 and unable to go on these types of trips. Take advantage of the opportunities to spend that time with him. You might bitch about this thing or that thing, but you will miss those when they are gone.

We have always done very well on walleye in North Bay(as well as smallmouth,lakers,and pike). There are some real hogs there as well.

North bay offers a little of everything. While I don't walleye fish a bunch, we caught and ate walleyes anytime we wanted.

North Bay has good reefs that hold both solid walleye and smallies. And the daytrip options are fantastic.

I'm also curious about this area. Any advise on campsites or places to fish for lakers?

There are a number of great sites. Most of the islands and at north side adjacent to passages to Isabella and South. A lot of traffic through North in July and August. For a little more solitude consider Lost Bay in north west corner - just a few minutes out of North, but sites are smallish.

Have been to north bay several times. We were mostly targeting lakers and did quite well fishing around john island and cigar island. We would pick up the occasional walleye there to. Caught a 42 inch pike in the channel between John and the main land. It's a very nice area. Have a great trip.

South Side of Cigar Island. About 100ft off the NorthEast point it drops significantly into deep water. AT that drop, we did really well on lakers with 2oz hair jigs, and trolling in about 70ft of water.

Halfway down that side ( campsite side) of the island, you lose the depth do an underwater hump. We caught them also on that hump.

A fish finder is your friend :) :)

In one week those lakers I'm talking about will be real shallow. REAL SHALLOW, and you will stick them quite easily.
