Ok - I'm probably the last one to think of this, but I just vacuum sealed TP for an upcoming trip. Waterproof and saves a lot of space! Wish I'd have thought of that sooner!

And paper towels, socks, undies, etc... Gotta love that invention. I've even used it on some bread products but it didn't turn out well.

Bring a ziplock bag to put the TP in after you open the vacuum sealed bag for the first use.

That works fine until you need to get into it and then you have to have something else to store it in like a Ziploc freezer bag. So you end up with the vac seal bag as garbage then and have to haul that around.

I have been doing this since I got my vacuum sealer. Works even better if you pull the cardboard tube out first.

Just put your zip bag right in with the tp when you seal it. I have a pair of socks and long underwear in my jump bag that goes in the truck in winter that I sealed five years ago and it's still solid and air tight.

i got a Food Saver at a yard sale today, not the high end one like that, for $3. a cheaper one from another sale last week,$2,turned out to be not so swell.so far i have $5 invested in these things and this one looks like it might really work.

I remember seeing vacuum bags that had a zipper end so you could seal the tp and when you need it you would already have a resealable bag.

Been doing that for a while. One of the best parts is the amount of pack space it saves. If you are a one-roll sort of person that doesn't matter. But my wife likes to make sure we can't run out on our usual 10 or so day trips. But it is very light and if it takes up no space then it is no big deal to be sure you have enough.

We use a food storage container for the roll that is in use. It also holds a small Purell bottle and sits at the foot of the latrine trail so you know if it is in use or not. So we don't need another ziplock with the TP.

Now THAT is bargain shopping. I should have you teach my wife that trick. :-)

It only saves space if you never use it. If that is the case, the saved space is taken up by the jar of Metamucil that you will need.

Well we are converts to this method now. I vac sealed all of our extra rolls of TP last year for our Quetico trip. Worked well and kept them protected till we needed to use them. When we used them we put them in a ziplock bag then.

Agreed. That's why I just squeeze air out and seal in ziplock. Just because one has an idea, doesn't make it a good idea...

Yeah, but the TP volume diminishes greatly when vacuum sealed.
The little bit of plastic I have to carry out is minimal. When we are on a trip of 9 women for a week - we are talking 8-9 rolls of TP. Vacuum keeps the size factor in check.
All a matter of preference.

I've been doing this for a long time. About the ziplock bag for after you cut open the vacuum bag - just roll up the ziplock and put it in the center tube of the toilet paper before you vacuum seal.
