I am thinking of doing a trip to the south western part of Quetico later this year. What entry points would you recommend?

Thank you for your help.

Been a long time since I been on that side. We went thru Crane Lake and took a boat ride thru Lac LaCroix to enter at #43 McAree. Did Wicksteed, Darky, Argo, Crooked and out thru Iron route. Route was fine enjoyed it very much. There is more that can be done in this area.

Also did the fly in thru Beaverhouse enter thru #32 Quetico Lake and work way over thru Jean to Sturgeon and down the Maligne River. Seen a few groups paddling up the Maligne river. Glad I was going the other way.

If you didn't want to fly or tow - both expensive for me - you can get to ranger station LLC in two days from EP14 so you'd need a EP 14 permit. If you got your Q permit night before, you could probably more easily get to Q for night one on a day paddle from other EPs into Crooked or LLC or somewhere along Basswood river.

I love that area.

I am partial toBlack Robe entry---camp anywhere from Wickstead to William the first day depending on how much fishing or how hard you want to work. Move on to Suzannette---Burt----Ted----Newts or Elk---camp near lower basswood falls leave through the BWCAW out at Mudro. Good fishing, don't need to repeat scenery, cheaper than towing Lac La Croix in and out.

The BWCAW portages will feel like paved roads after doing the Q route :)

Lot's of variations to try off of this as well.

You could also go thru Prairie Portage and head west down Basswood Lake....lots of different areas you could slide into...
