I enjoyed your photos. I thought they told your story well. I'm glad you had a good experience. We were there at the same time (but we were east of Moose). We have enjoyed Basswood many times...It is a busier area, very popular. I'm sure you will be back...(that's how it works, right?)

Thanks for the trip report, drglock. It's always nice to hear how it goes. It seems to have gone pretty well for you with the some of the usual learning experiences - yes those rocks are slippery, even the ones that aren't smooth, slanted, and covered with algae slime! You got some really nice pictures - if you have more to share, I'd love to see them. I'm sure you will enjoy your next trip, although the first one is always memorable.

We took about 500 photos on the trip. I will continue to add them to the photo album over time. It takes a while to upload them to the site so it may be a while until I have them all up. Thanks for reading!

Thanks for reading! I will be posting more photos over time to the photo album section. If they didn't take so long to upload I would have a lot more there :)

We didn't mind the busy so much as we were very focused on our journey and didn't pay too much attention to the others we saw other than a smile or a hello.
Yes, we will certainly be back. Hopefully many times! We have young ones that we plan on bringing with us over the next couple of years to show them this pure and beautiful place, and hopefully eventually carry the heavy pack :) We hope to explore many other areas of the wilderness there.

The addiction has been there since I was a little kid and my first trips into the Northwoods in Wisconsin. It only took me 30 years or so to realize that I could do a trip like this and yes, now I am addicted to the BW :)

We weren't home a full day before we both truly felt the yearning to return. I wish we could plan several trips. Maybe in the future when work life isn't so demanding. I would love to do 3 or 4 trips a year there. Perhaps one winter trip just to see the landscape frozen.

Thanks for reading!

Yeah, I know what you are saying - I have hun dreds more than are in my trip report. My solution in the past has been to upload them to Shutterfly, Snapfish, PhotoBucket, etc. as a "public" album and just share the link here.

From your trip report:
I opted to stop short of the Curtain Falls portage because I didn't want to be on this big stretch of open water if that storm came.

Could you mean Wheelbarrow Falls? Curtain Falls is on the West end of Crooked Lake.

Very nice report.

You are absolutely right, thank you for pointing that out. I think as I was putting this report together and looking at so many different maps and open web sites I got confused.

Curtain falls as well as Silverlight falls are on the agenda for future trips.

All occurences of Curtain Falls which were mistakenly identified by me have been corrected to read Wheelbarrow Falls as they should. Thanks again.

I got a charge out of your honest description of the near swamping. Once on a trip with my wife to Agnes Lake in the BW, I canoed across the lake to fish. I was in my new blue water 16 'prospector. Loaded it is very stable but solo with no load it is tender. Anyway, I attempted to throw a finished apply core on shore about 10 feet away. The next thing I knew I was in the water. I had effectively thrown myself out of the canoe. The canoe remained upright, I was in about 5" of water so I could stand. The water was cold and I lost one of my prized rods. Anyway, we all have mishaps in canoes. You sound like you recovered nicely from your episode and had a great time. Enjoyed reading the report. Jerry G
