Great report and thanks for sharing. I'm glad you had fun with that internet creepy guy Boonie. He is someone from this site that I haven't met in person but would feel comfortable tripping with. Since you didn't camp on Kelso the last night it's a good thing I went somewhere else on my solo and didn't go there hoping to meet up with you guys. I would have been looking for you for a long time.

We were both kind of surprised that all the sites were taken so early, but you can’t blame people for wanting to get out camping and paddling on such a great weekend.

The 3 years prior to this year I entered at Sawbill at the end of Sept. and beginning of Oct. and 2 of the years Sawbill was packed. One of the years we day tripped to Kelso and all sites were taken there also. The one year it wasn't packed when we were there was the year the couple died on Alton and the weather was horrible. That was a big part of the reason I decided to go somewhere else on my solo this year. Sawbill is a nice area and convenient for an easy weekend trip so I'm sure that's why it is a busy area even in the fall.

Although I am not an internet creepy guy (and neither is Steve), I have developed a tendency on solos to talk to myself...and anything else that won't listen. That tendency carried over to the trip with Steve. I noticed him keeping a considerable distance between us and casting wary glances my way when I was doing it, so I said, "Steve, when I say, Steve, that wasn't a smart thing to do, do you know when I'm talking to you and when I'm talking to myself?" He said, "No". I said, "OK". But I started calling him Steve-O after that. Now ducks, you know I could never make up a story like that, and you know I never would, nor would I even so much as embellish a thing.

Maybe someday our schedules will mesh and we'll rendezvous in the BW. But you're not named Steve, so I guess I'd just have to call us both "dude" :).

Yeah, if you'd have come looking for us on Kelso, we were well-hidden on that Sawbill site.

That was my first time out of Sawbill and it was busy both Saturdays. I just never considered that there would be so many people there early on a Friday. We probably got to Kelso Lake by 2:00.

There are a few before and after the BW trip, especially from my visit to Pukaskwa (PUCK-a-saw) National Park on the Trans Canada Hwy. It's a spectacular National Park if you ever get a chance to visit.

So, at the risk of sounding creepy... : ) How long did it take for anyone to say they had been through Markville MN? I saw that mentioned in the Sawbill Newsletter when making sure I had your name right. I’m sure a lot of Gandy Dancer users have passed through there. Having relatives in Swiss Twp WI (Danbury) and hanging around in the Nemadji and St. Croix State Forests, I have too.

Haha, it actually took about a month to find someone who had been to Markville. But he got his free can of pop! I'm sure that a lot of people have been through Markville on the Gandy without noticing it. Cool that you know that area!

Nice report from the 2 Steves. Sounds like the trip was a big success.

BTW, last August I went to WCPP with a scary internet guy (jcavenaug)I met here. We had a blast.

Andy, I see that you tripped with a couple different members of this site now, if I’m not mistaken. And you haven’t run into an axe murderer yet. : ) I think I was a little wary at first from tripping with acquaintances of friends who I didn’t know in the past. Although I’ve always got along, I did witness a couple of guys start to goad each other after a few days. One even hung his food pack over the other guy’s tent. I was also on a trip where everything turned into a competition. That one also made me feel uncomfortable. I did tell Steve that I wouldn’t be interested in trips like those early on in the planning stage. : )

I can’t wait to see Steve’s report. He wrote down many more things than I did. He was also the victim of the trickster hare on Pan who tried to hide the coffee packet he left out for morning.

Too bad our schedules didn't work out to meet, Mocha - maybe next time. I'll try to get a trip report done sometime, but Steve did a good one already. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the pictures. I got some really nice ones (I think) at Pukaskwa National Park.
