Cedarboy came by the shop while I was working on a friends project. An insulated floor for his CCS Octagon tent. We had both had the good fortune to visit/ stay with Bear last winter in his 12 x 12 hot tent where he(and I) carried in two canvas tarps that fit the floor and 2 layers of ridgerests to have sandwiched between the canvas. So during the long evenings we dreamed, plotted and schemed what would work for M.'s Octagon.
we ended up making a fitted floor. It was from the bottom to the top First a layer of Ultrex Fabric then a layer of 1/4" wide closed cell foam, then a layer of Reflectex( the reflective faced bubble insulation), then another layer of 1/4" closed cell foam then a layer of 1.9 oz nylon ripstop.
The octagon is 12 foot across. we divided the pads into 4 sections (quadrants) joining in the middle of the 90°flats of the octagon. Then making four 18" wide folding sections within each quadrant. Each quadrant velcro attached to the next,
It helped set the location of the tent when setting up.
If made the tent warm enough so that his 14 yr old son was often barefoot while in the tent. It seemed to reduce moisture coming up from the snow/ ground, but it definitely made the tent warmer and more pleasant.

as with any design of something there are plus's and minus's. Plus was the warmth and reduced condensation - minus it is something more to take and it has alot of volume- but not a lot of weight,

Not a winter camper here but that looks like a superb tent set-up you have there. Walking barefoot in a tent in a winter setting is very enticing.

Do you have your sleeping bags airing out on those bushes?

I always dry my bags in the winter- sublimation will pull moisture out. best to keep your bags as dry as you can. I should take a before and after picture.

I ordered for my winter cold tent (from bottom to top)

- the nylon footprint (it was cheaper than the fabric to make my own)
- some 1/8" thin evazote foam pads foam gossamer gear to go over the footprint
- 2mil mylar reflective sheet from amazon (for greenhouses, thicker than space blanket) to go over the foam pads
- the tent will go over this stack last, with the stack under the tent.

I'm hoping it reduces condensation as you suggest it might. Not expecting much warmth that thin. An experiment.

NotLight How are you protecting the 2mil mylar / assembling the materials?
