Joe Meany passed away before Christmas. Joe and Vera were long time rangers at Lac La Croix. Joe was a Quetico legend and he will be greatly missed by family, friends and those whose lives he touched.
I met him at the old Lac La Croix Range Station back in 1979 a few days after my 18th birthday. Seemed to a be a proud man with a VAST knowledge of Quetico. I believe the Sauvage Portage is named after him.

The first time I met Joe and his wife was when my wife and I were on our first Quetico trip in 1990. They offered to share some moose tenderloin that Joe and other rangers were grilling. He would not take no as a answer. We were glad he was that way. Great people. I hope he understood how well liked he was by all that met them.
