Track me down when I'm up there, Jan, and I'll buy you a beer or two. That's a lot of Postal work.

So postage to you and then to us. I tossed in a couple extra bucks cause I'm thinking it will cost more than what you said. Should have sent more for the hassle we're putting you through.

quote JoshP: "I read that a cheap alternative to an Ursack is to use old car air bags from the junk yard. Just need a little sewing to make a sack. FWIW.I work at a salvage yard, i'll have to look at them.
I have an Ursack and love it."

For those thinking about making one from an airbag, just remember that you'll have to sew the seams with the proper Spectra thread, which I believe was the weak point in previous models that were not "approved" by IGBC. You'll probably need to pay attention to thread count, etc. And you'll need to use cord of the same strength. It will only be as strong as its weakest link. Otherwise, you'll just have a glorified stuff sack, rather than something like the IGBC approved Ursack.

This is where I found the article:
http://gossamergear.com/wp/tips/diy-chew-proof-bear-bag
Also http://mammothgear.com often has 20% storwide sales and if you call them on the phone they will do this for the Ursack. But this must be done over the phone. This is how I bought my Ursack and liner. I was told the owner will come in and look at the revenue and tells the employees we're going to have 20% off sale in a couple days.

Thanks for the link, JoshP. It doesn't claim to be "bear resistant" like the Ursack, just a "chew-proof" bag. It seems aimed more at keeping mice out in AT shelters (?). He does note it's never been tested by a bear. It seems it could be a good, cheap, lightweight alternative for some uses, but don't think it should be considered equivalent to the approved Ursack.

Airbags are made of nylon fabric, tough stuff but not cut resistant.
Still, may make some good bags, how critter proof needs to be demonstrated.
