I have seen some threads concerning security of vehicles parked at Lerome Lake Entry, and people preferring to getting shuttled by nearby outfitters instead. Is there any real cause for concern?
I know that every small town has it's share of bad eggs, but I've also had a friend get a vehicle broken into at the Moose Lake parking lot in Ely. That doesn't mean I'm going to stop leaving my vehicle there as a result.

I have heard the same Finnlander, but I don't know why the Lerome Lake EP would be any worse than the Nym Lake EP. Both are roughly the same distance from Atikokan; Lerome to the west, and Nym to the East. The Nym Lake EP is about a mile south of Highway 11, whereas the Lerome Lake Parking area is right there off of the Highway. So maybe Lerome Lake is just more convenient for accessing "tourist" vehicles?

Additionally, there's a Public boat launch on Nym Lake about a mile down the same road that takes you to the Nym Lake Parking lot. In other words, there's plenty of locals in and around that area also.

Just the same, after we picked-up our permit for the Lerome Lake EP at the Quetico Park HQ in Atikokan a few years ago, we spotted our vehicle at Nym Lake before putting in at Lerome. It wasn't so much for security concerns, but we only had a about a week and we wanted to maximize our time and didn't want to back-track. We didn't think to ask how much the security was an actual issue, because our main goal was to avoid back-tracking to Lerome Lake. Besides as you know, there's no guarantees at any EP.

For what it's worth, the landing at Lerome Lake is a nice, gently sloping gravel launch. Although most of your first day will be outside of Quetico Park until you get to Cyrus Lake, it's still pretty wild, other than a few cabins in the Lerome Lake area.
