A few years ago we were laying over on Burke as a set up and pull out camp and the end of our trip....What we found was really good fishing on Burke for lakers and big smallies. We only fished the one afternoon but it sure seemed like Burke was way better than I thought.

I never read much about people fishing Burke as a destination lake, anybody else out there do well on Burke? Did I just get really lucky once?

I've fished there in winter and summer. It's certainly not a destination lake for me, but we often camp there on our last night in the park. The lake has all the major game fish species, including some very nice ones.

My crews have many times stayed on Burke both in and outward bound. Not much fishing success there. A beautiful picture can be had fron the top of the island just north of the portage to Bayley Bay, if available for a stop. Climb to the top and look northward toward North Bay. One of the best in the Park.

Yup........I trolled through Burke and popped several Lakers in short order. Very pretty fish with lots of copper coloring.

I usually troll thru it going to North Bay,we get one lake trout about every third time. Lake should be excellent but we have had tough fishing. Always wondered about the bay half way down that goes north, looks very fishy?

Not happy with Burke fish-wise, been through there at least once and all I remember is getting lucky to catch one eating sized smallmouth and lots of little ones. The rest of the lakes I fished that trip were good or better... I'd bust through a couple more portages and make it to North Bay if I were you. your mileage may vary!

I'm not planning a trip around Burke, just wondering what others' experience has been with that lake. I had a really good day there about five years ago on large lakers and large smallmouth.

I think it is a lake of quality fish, but usually not numbers. I am sure some people have figured out the lake. It is a deep clearwater lake that should be excellent.
