My northern Quetico entries have been limited to Stanton Bay with outfitter shuttles. I'm planning a trip for this Sept. & looking at entering at Beaverhouse. Is there any place to get a room for the night before Quetico entry that is close to Beaverhouse? Any restaurants or outfitters nearby? Also, any issues with vandalism or break-ins to vehicles parked at the north entry points?

Does anyone have recommendations of anyplace closer than Atikokan? We would like to get an early start and would prefer not to have to re-pack all of our camping gear, but could camp or go to Atikokan if needed. Thanks in advance for any help.

Well, you probably know that Atikokan is only 25 minutes from the Flanders turnoff to Beaverhouse. We stay at the White Otter Inn the night before entering and it's always served our purposes well, especially with the ranger station right down the street for our permit. We're on the road by about 5:00 or 5:15am and are paddling on Beaverhouse by 6:45am. Thanks to having picked up our permit the day before, we don't have to visit the Beaverhouse ranger station. We just paddle to the first portage and we're on our way.

As for someplace closer to the entrance, there's the Indiaonta Resort in Flanders. Some people heading in at BH stay there and like it. A little pricey but to each his own.

Aw, Jackfish, $40 each plus a nice breakfast at Indianota Resort is not pricy. Includes kitchen facilities so you can bring food to cook for the night too. They will also pick up your permit in Atikokan as part of the deal. The road into Indiaonta Resort is exactly opposite the road into Beaverhouse so it is conveniently situated also. The owners, Bob and Carolyn Giles, are neat people too!

If you think $40 is expensive you're crazy. Most motels are at least double or triple that.

White Otter site says 91 single and 99 double. Not sure that isn't "pricier" .

We stayed at Morris camp this last trip, & he provided our breaksfast & shuttle as well. I was just looking for something closer to a Beaverhouse entry. For $40 including breakfast, we'll probably go with Indianota. Anybody ever had problems to their vehicle while parked at a northern entry?

Seine River Lodge is great. Nice updated cabin and convenient to Beaverhouse! Great couple running the Lodge!

Bill, that price should be for a regular cabin. The forty bucks is for a bunk in their bunk house that seems like a regular cabin but the sleeping accommodations are a bit spartan. Again, the price is per person.

So, KCMOcat8, what are the charges for the Seine River Lodge? How far from the Beaverhouse entry road is this place?

Been going to BH for 25 years and never had any trouble with vehicles left in the parking lot. I usually trip around Labor Day, so am not sure what happens during summer rush.

I'll just add that I stayed at the Atikokan Hotel, I think the old railroad hotel, and it was quite pleasant and reasonable, before an entry at the Beaverhouse access to a Cirrus EP. Were I to do it again, staying in Atikokan, I'd probably go into the park at Lerome Lake to same entry points, with a shuttle.

We typically have eight guys. Eight x $40 = $320. Rooms at the White Otter are about $100 each. We get two rooms. $200 vs. $320. Granted, we don't get breakfast, but we don't want it. We're on the road by 5:15 or so. I don't think that qualifies as crazy. It works for us.

I'm with the others who say they haven't had any problems leaving their vehicles at the Beaverhouse parking lot.

That explains a lot. 4 in a room doesn't work so well for two couples or Scouts and adult leaders.

Another vote for the White Otter in Atikokan. Reasonable cost and much better than a bunkhouse. They charge in Canadian currency but do the exchange if you pay with US currency. The restaurant there offers good food and opens at 6:00 AM. We enjoyed a nice breakfast there.

I agree. I used them a few years ago, and they will be ON my list in the future for any NORTHERN entry trips.

I prefer the Atikokan Motel over the White Otter Inn. Neater place, I think. Just my .02.

For my fiance and me, the price was something like $60 last week before our entry to Nym.

I didn't know about the $40/person deal at Indionta. When entering Beaverhouse later this year, I might give that a try.

Yes. Quent and Lori are excellent hosts.

I doubt we paid more than $40 per person there a few years back. The Seine River Lodge is just a few miles east of the Beaverlake access road and maybe a mile or two north of the main east-west highway.

Indianota will also let you camp in a field next to their parking lot for less than a cabin. No shower or breakfast included and they might not be willing to pick up your permit if you camp. They did for me a few years ago, but I was told they should not have agreed to it by one of the owners.
