My Coleman Exponent Featherlite dual fuel is dying (leaks fuel around the burner shut-off)and I need to either have it fixed or replace it. To my horror, I could not find any on-line. I think they might have stopped making them - so what do I do for a replacement? Where can I get it fixed? thoughts? help?

This might help you on the parts side of it... Parts...

Sounds like you might need a new valve assembly...

I have two of these stoves which I still use, just got back from Rocky Mountain National Park where we camped for 3 nights and used the stoves. I have not had any problems with mine.

Yet, I am looking at an MSR Whisperlite as an upgrade, if I do I will contact you and let you know.

Here's what you need:

Valve assembly. Part # 550-6565

I have the same burner and I love it. I think the dual fuel valve assembly for the coleman dual fuel 533 burner would work also, but if you can get the right one for the exponent then you should. The part is 30 dollars; cheaper than a new burner for sure. Those little burners are expensive if you find them on Amazon. Hope this works.

Sorry, mine is not the featherlite so I found the wrong part for you. Looks like Bruce found the right part if they have it in stock. However, I bet either of those valve assemblies will work. On those dual fuel burners the valve assemblies look like they may be interchangeable. I measured the valve assembly in my Coleman 533 dual fuel and exponent and it looks like either valve assembly would work.

I'd suggest repair, but I tinker with stuff and enjoy the challenge. Most of the time a leaky valve has just loosened up a bit. If you do not trust a repair then replace it. E-bay has a bunch at less than $50 (Coleman single burner). Coleman stove identification is much easier with a photo of your stove, they made a BUNCH each just a bit different.
Personally, I'd replace it with a stove that uses a separate tank and fuel line to the burner (that leaky valve at the burner and above the fuel tank can make an exciting trip story!

So what would you replace it with? I want stable for large pots and cooking for big groups.

Optimus Nova or Vega, MSR Dragonfly or Windpro , Coleman Apex just about what you are using but new, with a separate tank.

All are more stable and will hold as large or larger potfull. Owned Coleman 442 (Peak One 2 valve dark brown version), and 550 Multifuel.

My current use and favored are MSR Dragonfly right side, and Windpro left side, between are Coleman Exponent and Brunton AF. My Dragonfly on a Trillium base supporting a 8 3/4 inch diameter pot.
Prices are high for new, but old models and used can be real bargains, not much wear over normal use, and roughly used can be brought back to life.Your leaky 442 shouldn't be difficult to repair, I kept my 442 and 550 as spares for quite a while before peddling them.

optimus-nova-plus-stove is a little pricey but is what I have...large pot no problem.

I had this same problem on my Duel Fuel stoves (one had this happen day one of a solo Quetico trip). The valve assembly and o-ring are to blame. Not a difficult repair and keeps them running.

Sounds like several of you are handy stove repair men - anyone willing to do the repairs or is there someone or somewhere I can send them to be repaired in the Minneapolis/St. Paul area?

GrandmaL....I have a Coleman Dual Fuel Feather 442 I will give to you. It may need to have the pump gasket serviced/replaced since I've not used it for over two years. Overall, it has seen only light usage. I live in central Illinois but we can work something out on shipping. E-mail me if you are interested. gordons716@gmail.com

OK. Here's my Coleman stove problem. I'm thinning out the gear closet. I have a Coleman 533, a Coleman Apex II, and a Coleman 442 peak1 lantern. I want to get rid of them. I had been to lazy to test these out... but I finally fired up the 533 on Saturday and it has a leak around the red handled on knob. Seems super dangerous. I am going to assume the other two have issues - albeit undiscovered - due to age.

I'm not in the mood to mess around fixing these or to test out the Apex or lantern - since I'm getting rid of them. But I don't really want to sell them or give them away to someone if they are unsafe.

Chuck them? Or is there a stovehead out there who feels competent with the safety issues and repair that I could give them to as is. Right now I am leaning towards just chucking them, since that is the least work for me, and the safe thing to do it seems. Plus I can just do it now and be done with it - I'm about burned out on garage saling.

Don't chuck them. If no other home can be found I'll take them, fix em if I can and get them back in circulation.
E-mail me for info.

NotLight - I will take them and pass them on to Butthead or find them a good home. Butthead has saved my stoves in the past. We can work something out. I live close so we can work out a hand off. E-mail sent.

Ok. That sounds good. I'll float them your way in a week or two, and you and BH can see if they can be repaired and find a new home.

If buying new, I really like the MSR Dragonfly. It can support large pots so great for a group. It does not get quite as compact as some but the large pot support is crucial to me. It can adjust from a tiny flame to a jet engine sound. I have a duel fuel coleman also and like if fairly well. I cook over a fire when I can but that is not always the case.

I like the types of stoves that use fuel I can refill and not have disposable containers.

For all that have trouble with Coleman stoves, and lamps, i have got free help here:
http://www.colemancollectorsforum.com/

I love the Apex stoves, and by my opinion, a well working stove should be worth $100!

No-one makes anything matching those today!

Nope, never. If I ever consider such I'll ask Darth Flamer
