I went through that 90 rodder rock garden towards Cherokee and then back again about 8 days later. Really nasty. Had a bad leg too. There was a guy and his wife on the way back who stopped at the entrance to this portage a bit too early, and went up to his waist in mud.

This was the last two weeks of July 2015 period, so not so long ago.

Thanks for the report - enjoyed it. I'm heading from Snipe to Tuscarora through Copper in a few weeks. If you've got any more pictures of that area and portage, I'd love to see them, or any other info you can share.

Boonie-I'll see if I have any other photos of that area. The portage from Snipe to Copper is pretty steep and rocky, but overall not too bad. Those portages were very easy to find with a map compared to some others. That section was probably the best views we got the whole time so I hope you enjoy it as much as we did.

And quark I agree on the rock garden bypass to Ada, brutal but much better than braving waist deep mud. If I hadn't been warned I would have been tempted, it looked deceiving.

Thanks, birchwalker - I'm sure I will enjoy it. I was mostly wondering how nice the Howl portage country was. I'm not too worried about those portages - they won't be as tough as last year's or some other ones I've done. I had pretty much decided to go through almost a year ago and not many people seemed to have gone through there so there wasn't much information. Now it seems several people have or are going through there. I'll be going in Sept so maybe our paths will cross.

Thank you very much for the report. My son and I were along a good portion of your route in 2013. We entered in at Missing Link and went down to Cherokee. I do love the island site on Tuscarora. My buddy from college and I spent two nights there in late July of 2014. The sunsets from there are amazing. Thanks once again and happy paddling!!!
