Looking for a 10 day, low portage trip with good pike fishing and scenery. We will be hauling fresh meat and plenty of cocktails so minimal portages are needed for this 60 something trip. Eyeballing the entry at Nym to Batchewaung to Pickerel Narrows to Pickerel to the French exit. This will be my first trip in Quetico. Any advice would be appreciated.

Well you'll just have the one portage from Nym over to Batch, which is not too bad. Fairly level and well maintained compared to others. Length wise it's not too bad. Plus you'll have the short little portage from the parking lot down to the Nym dockand the one at French lake to get out.

Pickerel has tons of campsite options, and as OF57 mentioned, only one portage to get in. Always have had luck fishing on Pickerel. You'll have the prevailing winds in your favor by heading West-to-East. Can also try entering at Beaverhouse, where other than a short portage into Quetico Lake, the only portage challenge would be from your car to the put-in. You could easily spend a week or so on Quetico Lake, then loop back to Beaverhouse. You'll definitely see fewer people on this stretch, if you're looking for solitude./
