My sister and I are going on our 2nd winter camping adventure - with a hot tent again. BUT would like to try to sleep out under the stars one night if there is a clear and somewhat mild night ... has there been a post on how to stay safe and warm outside of a tent. If not.. advice? Thanks!

if you have a hot tent nearby i don't think sleeping out in the snow would be a big deal. otherwise i'd say keeping everything dry is the most important. second is bacon, you can never eat too much bacon in the winter.

You have to follow the same rules that you would sleeping in the cold whether it be in a tent or not.
1.Insulate yourself from the ground and the outside air.
2.If it's going to snow then a tarp or a bivy sack with a type of head cover is handy.
3.Have a means of slipping on and off your boots easily or some type of camp slippers for night time trips to relieve yourself.
4.A place for the clothes, boots and gear you won't wear while sleeping.
5.Cover for your boots so snow won't get inside while you sleep (there always seems to be snow, blown snow or frost that get inside).

LMAO, so true. Brings to mind the great Japanese alpinist who took nothing but things like bacon, caviar, etc.
