BWCA.com now has an instagram. Do you guys know how to use it? It is a huge asset, if you are looking to increase traffic on this site. Someone should be able to post daily with the amount of media that comes through here.....

.... and now im wondering if this is a personal instagram or is it for the website? Is it going to be used to connect members in a contemporary way? Will member pictures be featured?
This is all looking hopeless especially considering members seem so proud to be antiquated and uninformed as to how people share media these days! If the instagram actually develops into a steady stream of information and digital media a lot of (young) people could really enjoy it and learn what it is that we do in the bwca.

While you may not like it, he's spot on. I hear and read lots of talk about engaging the younger generation. Instagram is a way to do just that, if used properly.

Whether he is right is not my point. It is the tone of his post that I take offense to. It is possible to articulate an opinion without being so crass.

Sounds like a two way street to me. I am one of those who has seen no reason to use or join the various social medias out there. But, just as Instagram could attract whipper-snappers to explore BWCA, the BWCA could attract this geezer to Instagram. I'll even have my son take a selfie of me, and have him show me how to facetweet it to Instachat... ;)

I think you may be reading too much into his post. I don't think its nearly as offensive as you are taking it and there was certainly nothing crass about it.
He simply said members seem proud to be antiquated and uninformed about new media avenues. Seems pretty spot on to me considering his post followed numerous posts from people saying they have no idea what instagram is and had no plans to find out. Instagram is a great way to reach younger users. Its no secret that the average age of frequent bwca.com users is on the older side and reaching out to a younger crowd is great way to boost traffic and also help pass the torch so to speak. However, if existing members are unwilling to expand their own horizons or even explore what this new thing is all about then reaching the younger crowd may very well be hopeless.

From Webster:
antiquated
: very old and no longer useful, popular, or accepted : very old-fashioned or obsolete
Yep. I paddle my canoe amongst jet skis, speed boats, ... I get comments all the time asking why I would paddle a canoe. Maybe someday they will discover the peace and solitude. Yep, I am old. Yep, according to my wife, there are days that I am not useful. I am not always popular or accepted. I am a bit old-fashioned, but hopefully not obsolete.
uninformed
: not having knowledge or information about a situation, subject, etc
Yep. I am uninformed about Instagram. I'm good with that.
Ok, got in my introspection for the day. Thanks Jim.
See you on the water.

I'm glad I've sparked a discussion. I seem to remember the Bwca.com account having around 60 followers when I first saw it and posted here.
@jimgoods for now"
Crass, arrogant or condescending. Good descriptions especially if you only found 60 followers in 2015. Didn't look too hard!

I think he meant 60 people on the instagram account when he first posted the thread, and it has grown since his posting.
Its sad that we need to belittle and name call in so many threads. Having it available shouldn't be a "good" vs "bad" thing, but bashing each other over whether we find it useful or not certainly falls into the bad category.

hey now, im not calling you all around antiquated, and im not calling your method of transportation antiquated....
Sorry for standing my ground and using an unwelcome tone. Im saying that instagram is a useful, popular, accepted, modern, and essential form of sharing pictures and video. I thought the thread was being poorly received initially, and no one was interested or taking me seriously when I was trying to help. Please mods, use @bwcacom to build community, raise funds, direct online traffic, and share some awesome pictures of fish, cliffs, and water.

Having never been a part of social media, the only thing I thought of was murphylakejim's fist postings to BWCA.COM in 2015. My simpleton showing.

Still applies, though.

Misread your initial attempt, I know what Instagram is, chose not to use (or any other form of social media on a regular basis). As an old codger, long time member, forgive my defensiveness of this site.
