Been a mosquito free summer until last Saturday in the Mille lac-Brainerd area, now there are huge squadrons of those tiny ones who attack immediately. There horrible. We got so much standing water around home the whole county is one breeding ground.

Any Ely-Gunflint reports or even your home area?
Maybe like a herd of caribou going to the ocean or snow fields to get away from bugs, maybe I can migrate north to get away from the bugs?

Fairly buggy around here, inland from Lake Superior. Not as bad as a couple of years ago, though.

Not too bad on the range. They are here, and come out now and again. But I'm not getting bugged by them. Even the horse and deer fly's are here one day and gone the next. Now near or in the swamps? Yeah, your asking for trouble.

I'm currently just south of Mille Lacs a little ways, and it seems like they have exploded in the last few days.

I think in our areas we have so much standing water in meadows and swamps now.

So, will they be gone in 4 weeks? I hate mosquitos, although they LOVE me. This will only be my second trip that early in the year and they were annoying last time.

They may not be as bad or bad by Ely etc. they have had some bad storms but have not got the rain that parts of Minnesota got.

They've exploded here also...... half way between St. Cloud and the cities. They were as excited about feeding on me as I was about the steaks I was grilling at 5:30. They were as thick as you'd expect at dusk.

My daughter and I are heading up to the bwca in a couple of days. I have the thermacell and head net packed just for her.

Mosquito season is longer now because of our changing climate. the rain and warm weather we have had this summer certainly helps the little bastards.

In the cities, not bad at all. Then again, we have the Metropolitan Mosquito Control District to thank for that. MMCD

It was a fairly average spring. The only thing that will make this an abnormal mosquito season in Northern Minnesota is if the rain keeps coming into August when they normally thin out.

Climate changes, that is what it does, always has and always will.

I wonder, is it the heat or the humidity? I've been reading a lot about "corn sweat" over the last month or so. Supposedly 60% of our humidity comes from corn now? Corn releases water to evaporation much more rapidly than native grasses and trees. I wonder if that's the reason for all these massive blowdowns too - much more energy in the atmosphere due to that water vapor. I dunno?

Seems like a bad deal to give up the pickup truck for an electric bicycle if the real problem is agriculture. But again, I have no clue there. Just curious.

We meaning Mille lacs area hardly had any mosquitoes until last Saturday all summer. They were way down all summer-it was really wierd-no mosquitoes. Now they are about as bad as they can get, even in the middle of the day in the yard.

Those MMCD choppers have been dropping briquettes in my neighborhood more than usual this year. Now if someone could only find some type of safe biological control for those Japanese Beetles that keep eating my beans.

I guess those beetles are bad toward the TC area.

I heard on the radio just this morning the skeeter crop is the worst right now since 1980 in our area (north central MN). Not sure how they measure that but I would concur. They seem small here and we've notice the bites don't seem to itch long.

About 4 days ago the hoards of skeets reared their ugly heads here in south central MN.

Paul Douglas (Minnesota weather wizard) said on a recent show that mosquito season is now 30 days longer than in the 1980's. I can believe it. Two years ago they were still going strong at Sawbill over the Labor Day weekend.

I'd say bring full bug defenses unless there has been a killing frost (not likely.)

Still chuckling at all this bug talk. I sit out at my fire every night with far less bugs than usual. No bug spray no fogging. I usually have to fog. Sometimes the skeeters are so bad here I've had to fog the inside of my cabin when I return from a trip. There are a few, but hardly noticeable. You all might as well come camp here. Haha!

We ship free of cost all the mosquitoes you want. Will even throw in a extra dozen or so free of cost.

I heard like Kawishiwi river just the last couple of days they are bad at dark but daytime hardly none. So good canoeing and camping can be enjoyed.

Back at home you walk even thru the yard and they rise in columns-like I said we have water everywhere. Deer flies are pretty much gone tho.

If it is halfway dry, August is a great month to canoe, also you can pack light with few extra clothes etc.

I just got back from the Crosby/Emily area. You are not kidding.

We were up Thursday through Sunday and we have never seen the mosquitoes that bad... full sun full heat and we were covered anytime we left the cabin without bug spray. Never seen them out during the heat of day like that.

They are in full combat mode also-they attack on sight.

Thank goodness I'm back in the mosquito control district of Minneapolis. Those Mille Lacs area mosquitos killed me mowing the other day and that was during mid-day sun. They seem to be a little smaller and buzz less than others mosquitos, and my skin reacts worse to their bite.
