Those will be a killer for the big Pike. I like the added buck tails you did.

I've always loved the Little Cleo and have done really well on them. Fish them in a stained lake and they can be lights out.

Love it. Black and white are tops for pike. You can't really get better contrast and stay natural, if you think about it. Most fish have both black and white on them. Now I want to go northern fishing. Or lakers.

Growing up as a kid in the 60's and 70's I had plenty of daredevils and little cleos in my box. A daredevil and a #3 Mepps bucktail were probably the first lures I ever fished with. You managed to combine them into a super lure. Go OldSchool!

Sweet!

As an official "Old Fart" at 66 I grew up fishing most of those. They are all "contenders" in my book. Never saw the "Doctor" before so was looking it over pretty closely. The split ring looks a bit rusty - might want to replace it before you wet a line. Hate to have you lose a trophy pike by accident.

weird but i would like it even more if it was black. My research (done with a federal grant) has indicated that black is the top color for trophy northern. Who would of thunk it?

Further research has concluded that the Williams Whitefish spoon in the largest size, half gold/half silver with the treble hook replaced with a single large salmon hook and a white curly tail slapped on is large pike candy.

shock (and other spoon flippers), do you ever tie directly to the spoon, as I see some of yours do not have split rings? Or are they always connected with either a split ring, snap, or leader?

Also, I know you take great care of your spoons, but if a spoon does get some corrosion on it, what do you deem best for removal?

the larger spoons i usually use a leader , but been meaning to get some more larger split rings for the top, it seems to give them a free wiggle type movement. if spoons were very bad on corrosion i might clean them down and repaint ? the very large little cleo(red/gold) i took fingernail polish and touched up the red.

You can polish those spoons with a mixture of vinegar, salt and flour and from what I hear ketchup works as well

I really like the buck tail look. I decided to try tying buck tail on a Cleo tonight. I definitely will make more!

I don't get on this message board very often but am always lurking around . Anyways couldn't resist this topic . First of all those spoons look great guys , that last cleo above would be a killer in these parts for lake trout . Another thing I would like to add is that I always change up the hook on my spoons with the trailers you can buy for topwaters . I use them for lake trout and they love them . I use a red tinsel hook on my gold EGB's and a white/silver/red tinsel on my silver spoons . For all the spoon pullers on here , give this a shot . It's worth it , especially for lake trout !

Anyone ever have any luck on Viper spoons? Have had a handful for years and I'm gonna pack them along this year to finally try.

I use The Doctor in silver exclusively for Lakers in June. I do pack a set of Lil Cleos also.

Which one seems to be the most productive for you?

04/09/2017 01:59PM
QM the blk/wht daredevil and the gold/org cleo (which weighs 40g.) are my top 2 producers, (the hot pink has its time also) the red/gold cleo is just shy of 2oz. , so i do need my 1-3oz rated rod to cast that one ;) those 2 daredevils came out of grandpas old tackle box and some how made it into mine ;) go figure ! click the close up , proof is in the bite marks ;)

Who is the ebay seller who did this? Did you use your own spoons or did he provide the spoons as well. I am interested in having this done to some of my spoons.

Thanks
