Just got back from a week of fishing and paddling on the Basswood river. One of the best fishing trips we have had on the water in the BWCA. Caught many nice fish including several walleye over 24 inches, a 30+ in pike, and a many smallmouth in the 3-4.5 lb range.

Caught this guy below Wheelbarrow Falls... Love the coloration!

Nice pic, that's almost all we caught on Kanipi one year but didn't realize it until we started catching regular phase walleyes. Wish I would of taken a pic.

Thanks of sharing.

Its like a silver phase pike. They dont switch back and forth but rather there is some genetic mutation or lack of pigment being exhibited.

Very cool!

So I did some research and it sounds like these are similar to albinos (or are albinos depending on the definition. )They lack the yellow pigment of a regular walleye is the way I inderstood it- they therefore are blue. There is some genetic mutation in certain lakes/areas that cause this.

I had no idea this was a thing...Definitely a cool fish!!

I've caught my share of walleyes with blueish fins and backs, but that is by far the bluest I've ever seen.

The picture barely does it justice, I have never seen anything quite like it! This was the only blue one we caught during our trip.

I believe you. Photos are sometimes shadows of the real thing.

Super cool. I've read about them but never personally seen one. Congrats.

I am going to send it to my DNR fish geek buddy. I know his first question -- Was there any post photo editing?

My dad took the pic, sent it to me after I got back to work on Monday (WORK!!!! UGH) no photo editing, he is the most honest guy i've ever known, and the best paddling partner I could hope for! We have paddled in some tough spots together, but knowing he is behind me in the canoe, I never worry!

I've caught walleyes like the the top one in this picture, but nothing like the one FishGeek caught. That is as blue as they come.

Na, it sounds like me. I've been in remodel HELL. My wife and I decided to do an end to end remodel in our downstairs. To the STUDS.

* New Electric Service
* External Waterproofing System
* All new walls, including new drywall and studs.
* New electric outlets and plugs
* Zone Controlled HVAC
* Trey Ceiling and can lighting
* New RG-6 centralized wiring for Cable
* two Separate GBE / CAT-6 networks. One for Media only, one for Home Network
* Bamboo flooring
* 18 ft LVL beam to open the space and put in 96 inches of pocket doors. Yea, that is COOL.

We started just after new years last year, after coming home to a swamp and jungle in our downstairs.

I love trey ceilings! Wish I had one. A high tech home where you'll be walking on grass (Bamboo, of course, is a grass.) sounds like Heaven on Earth.

My inside has been done for a couple years, but the outside has been even more work. I have four big gardens that wrap around it and I've both tamed the woods and increased its biodiversity with more indigenous species (beeches, moosewood, Kentucky coffeetree, scarlet oaks, 21 sugar maples, etc.).

Here are some pics of my home, before and after.

I have only read about this genetic mutation online, and seen photos through Google Images. I wasn't aware that these guys were in our lakes. Thanks for sharing!

So glad you had those pictures, mine didn't turn out. I took several pictures of the fish but you couldn't tell how blue they were. We did catch a lot of blue walleyes, with different degrees of blue color. They sure are beautiful . Thanks for sharing those pictures.
