Enjoyed reading your trip report. I'm glad everything turned out well in the end and you were able to cross that off the list.

I stayed at the same site on Moosecamp many years ago. Was my buddy still there?

Great report and very well written. You guys had a plan and executed it which always feels good. I know that feeling of hoping for a certain campsite and seeing it open. Landing there and walking around the first time it's like you just hit the jackpot.

I've done the start of your trip up until Gun. Fourtown was busy, Boot and Fairy seemed nice and we stayed on Gun on 2 different trips. Nice area. The water on Gun is very different from its neighbors.

Wow. Wow. Wow. It's a good thing I'm in a public place right now or I might be crying. Mercy. What a report!

I thought I had a hard first trip. If I was standing in your living room I'd give you both a handshake. You've been initiated, you overcame the adversity, and most importantly you have been bit by the wilderness bug. All of the physical challenges you endured combined with your friend's cancer diagnosis made an already difficult experience all that more difficult. But you know as well as I do that our God is one that loves to gives us strength in our weakness and indeed has promised that.

"As I turned to mentally capture my last view of canoe country, I captured more than a memory. I knew I had recaptured a part of who I am and my final prayer that day was to carry over the lessons learned into "real life." Not necessarily the need for maps, compasses, and good clean water, but the knowledge that through the strength I receive from God, I can persevere through any adversity." +100K. I can relate. My last look into canoe country had the exact same effect on me.

You'll be back.

Absolutely top notch report! I thoroughly enjoyed reading about your trip. Our first trip to the BWCA was last May 2015, and we too hoped to go all the way to Beartrap lake. We only made it as far as Fairy Lake (eastern site), but did take a day trip up to Gun. We also stayed on Fourtown. It was fun re-living our original plans vicariously. I'm pleased to know the storms didn't devastate the area. Blessings to you and Curt! I hope his back is feeling better.

Awesome report. I am a pastor from southern Illinois and the BWCA was on my bucket list for years. 8 years ago I made my first trip and have now made 9 trips since. Three years ago we did the same route you took. Your report brought back found memories.
My buddy and I both have kidney stone problems and I have had two back surgeries. Your experiences are never far from our minds. Love the way God strengthened you for the trip out.

As an aside, we found the water on Gull to be full of particles and have vowed not to filter water from it again as it also clogged our water filter.

One last request: could you talk my wife into going once! Would love to experience it with her. Close as I can get her is the Holiday Inn in Duluth. LOL!

Thanks again for sharing
David
