If anyone is in Superior this weekend, come watch the Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival. The race is at Barkers Island. My team Off The Edge races at 11 am and 2:30 pm. Should be a fun festival even if it rains.

Lori, good luck with the races - oh, but wait - you don't need luck - you have skill!

Dragon Boats are big huge Chinese canoes with dragon heads on them. 20 paddlers, 2 to a bench so you only paddle on one side, a leader/drummer who sets the tempo, and a steersman with long oar rudder. If done well, the paddlers are so in sync that they look like pistons in an engine.

We did it one year as a novice team of cancer survivors and caregivers. We were not like pistons in an engine and snatched complete defeat from finishing second to last in the final few yards. But it was still cool in that some of the survivors were able to do more than they expected. My wife and I paddled with a really good team one day (the LGBT Rainbow Koi) and that was a blast.

We saw the boats as we drove south on 53 today. Looked like lots of fun.

We took 17th overall. There were 69 teams. 4th in the women's division out of 8 teams. Not bad for a group of middle aged women!
