That turned out awesome! The 2 that I've caught have also been in June and like you said, they don't have the awesome spawning colors they are still beautiful.

It is my understanding that these stocked Brookies do not reproduce. They are "put and take" fish but that doesn't change my thinking on releasing what I consider an awesome fish. That 20 3/4"er could be someone's 22"-23" trophy if it lived a couple more years.
The fight was great as the fish grabbed my panther martin about 10' from the canoe. I also caught a 19.5"er the same trip and that one was 3.5lbs...I didn't have the scale with me on the bigger one. The battle reminds me of hooking a quality smallmouth in a river.

Ha! I don't mind getting outfished by the kids. On our trip to Wood lake this year I never wet a line other than from camp before they woke up in the morning. Oh how the times have changed.... :)

Yep... I hear ya and I wouldn't change a thing. The smiles on their faces is much better than catching a fish myself :)
