Thanks for the report and nice pictures. Glad to hear you got into a hog smallie. We saw the same nest on Lower Pauness portage and an inhabitant was not real happy with us being there a few weeks ago. (see pic)
Sounds like a much better trip for the little one than last time. How did you like the MNIII?

I like the III a lot with the kid, and he's turning into a good paddler in short intervals. We did a Souris River rigged for 3 last time, and that worked well, too, but the MNIII seemed faster and tracked better in the wind, IMO.
The bass was fun, and the eagle was cool Definitely the same nest.

I agree that the undergrowth is growing well. I was on the island site on Phoebe three years ago, and the views were nothing like they were 10 years earlier. I had a favorite sitting place 10 years ago, and it was pretty much covered by a small tree in 2013. Had to look around to find it, even though I knew exactly where it was in 2003.

I think we might have been the other family at the EP you mentioned. We have an 8 year old daughter and were headed in just after a family with a young boy. I'll try to get up a trip report eventually, but my wife already wrote one up on her blog.
Do we look familiar?
Do we look familiar?

I enjoyed reading your trip report. We did that treck back in May, and stayed on Lynx for two days as well! (We were at the south eastern site - high up). That beaver pond on the shell portage sure is annoying.

Sure do. I hope your trip was great as well!

I've done that portage enough times, that it is just part of the trip at this point. That is a go to EP for me.
I may actually try to get back up for a solo in a few weeks if I can swing it with my work schedule!
