Anyone affected by these floods? Looks like the Cedar River is a mess.

On my way to Iowa City this weekend. Hope the Highways are open. Will need to check IA DOT.

Northallen,

I am also going to Iowa City this weekend to watch the Hawks vs. Northwestern. Going west on I-80 from Davenport should be passable. I think you should be ok coming East on I-80 ... but not sure. The Cedar River is receeding but still above flood stage.

I came east on I-80 on June 13, 2008 and the State Police closed down I-80 East and West at the Williamsburg, IA exit and we were diverted around Cedar Rapids.... the devestation to downtown Cedar Rapids was unbelievable. The river crested to a record 31 1/2 feet. The water downtown was over the tops of telephone poles.

As of yesterday the Cedar River is expected to crest at 23 feet. No rain in the forecast the next several days and that should help a bunch.

Cedar Rapids Flood 2008 story and pics

Best to check Iowa DOT on Friday.

GO HAWKS!

I helped my parents clean up in Greene. Ground zero for the flooding as they got 13" in one evening and it was too high to get stuff out by 3am.

Not a fun time, and only topped once in history and that was 2008. So much for 500 year floods....8 years apart. Lots of mud/silt and the smell is something that sticks with you for a while.

I live just south of Cedar Rapids and my son lives in C.R. The river crested a foot lower than predicted but, it's still second only to the '08 flood in the records. Officials and people were much more prepared this time around though and damage should be a lot less. The river is forecasted to be below flood stage by this Sunday, 10/2. Quick up and quick down.

The I-380 and Hwy 30 bridges in C.R. never closed. Just don't slow or stop to gawk. I-80 was not affected either.

We're coming down from the twin cities; through Waterloo and CR on way to IC. Main highways look passable. Should be OK.
