We typically go to BWCA mid September. I would like to do a fall color trip. What weeks seem to be best? What was your experience with temps and rain?

You can't always rely on the DNR color map for accuracy. Last year I traveled to areas that were listed at 50 to 75 percent and they were barely 5 percent.

Last week of Sept, first week of Oct.

By next Wednesday I think much of central to northern Minnesota will be peaking.

Perfect heading up Sat for my first Solo. Friend decided not to go ,told me yesterday.
Most of the trips I've gone first week of Oct. and it has been beautiful.

Depends on the year.......went once on 9/23 and it was too early......went a couple years later on 10/4 and it was past peak. It wasn't a total washout either time, still beautiful, but not peak. Flip the coin!

Colors are nice right now! Lots of red & blazing orange on maples.

May be more color soon but depending on weather, a strong wind/storm could knock a lot of that down.

The tamaracks are turning nice & bronze/orange now. Highway One from the airport to town is gorgeous!

Just got out on Oct 1 at Mudro and colors were just getting started. They seem to be later this year and I was expecting more color. I would guess they were 25% color.

Just finished a trip in the Q (Beaverhouse)Saturday and the colors were just peaking. Curious, however, an area south of International Falls had pockets of empty trees already.

The last weekend in September/first of October.

We were on the Gunflint the week of Sept 19th and were a bit too early, colors were there but just getting started. It still felt like magic being up there in the Fall. Every year the timing will be different, sounds like right now is a pretty good idea.
