I wonder what others thought about the article. I thought it was OK, got into the history as much as the land and was a bit fluffy. It didn't convey the difficulty and bugs, though I don't think that was the intent of the story.

What I can say is this: it will likely inspire people to make the trip next spring. I doubt it will lead to noticeably higher numbers, but NYT stories often have that effect. When I lived in New York City, our sleepy little enclave neighborhood in northern Manhattan was just that. Then the NYT did a story, and it became trendy and hip in very short order.

Yeah, it was "A bit fluffy," but isn't that the way most trip reports come out through the eyes of "Newbies" in canoe country? Always interesting to look at something "Old" to me through a different perspective.

Good points. And I got to thinking: would a story ever get published that described the "true" BWCA:

hot, cold, buggy, rainy, sunny, boggy, muddy, sandy, stormy, windy, all of which can happen in one day... and lakes connected together by trails that animals often choose to bypass. But it's still the greatest place on earth!

I posted this as well in a thread entitled "a plug for the bwca". It's a great article and the pictures speak to why we love to go there so often!

Oh, it's not a problem ---- and certainly worth two threads! We should have a "Merge Posts" function in the next mod so that we can combine threads when/if the need should arise :)
