Does anyone have experience with these "tent/hammocks"? New, they are pricey but look to be very nice. I've never slept in a hammock for the night, but these look like I might enjoy them, though an insulating pad under the sleeping bag would be necessary.

I would think that any movement or getting up to go to the bathroom during the night would certainly wake everyone up. Would everyone slide towards the heaviest person? In a tent you can stash things along the sides, in the corners, or even in the middle between two people. With this it just looks like everything would be flopping around all over the place. It would also require a perfect layout of trees.

I have heard that everyone ends up sliding down to the middle of the tent by morning.

My brother has one of these....very cool. It does have it's pros and cons. It does sag towards the middle and you need to find three good sized trees properly spaced and positioned. On our site last summer, he was quite a ways back in the bush.

On the positive, it is comfortable. It get you off the ground. It's a neat combination of a tent and hammock. It allows you to sleep in the comfort of a hammock with others (kids).

I love it. It's easier than you think to find a decent set up of 3 trees. Best part is that the ground below it can be full of rocks/roots/whatever. Doesn't matter. When you're looking to hang a tarp, you're ideally looking for flat ground under it. Don't need to worry about that with the Tentsile (as long as you have a solid footing to get in/out of it).

As for things gathering in the center, I didn't have that problem. My first purchase was a Tentsile Flite. It was a nice compact design, but for me it was too small (6'4"), and everything did slide into the center. I returned it and picked up the Connect. Plenty of room at the toe side of tent to stash clothes/etc. Several internal pockets for gear. And a few items stayed put in the head side corners too.
It stayed flat enough where I could sleep on my side if I wanted, which was the advantage over a hammock. Obvious trade off is it being bulky in size.
They do have a divider strap down the middle too. If pulled tight, I believe it's designed so you and your tent mate don't slide down in to each other. I haven't shared my space yet however.

Heading up for a Spring run soon with a friend who has a Tentsile as well.

I've been chatting about this over on this board as well:

I think it's a challenge already to find 2 decent trees to hang a hammock (or 2 or 3) and be close with your group. Requiring 3 bigger trees, adequate spacing between them, and having them be in the right configuration may not be possible in the BWCA... IMHO.

I think a regular tent with a Helinox cot is a lot easier way to get the same result.
