I am looking for one for my Lean 1 plus shelter. I think it would be light, easily packable and would hang from the center of the tent or my tarp. I have no experience with them. Are they worth it? Might ask for one for Christmas.

Luci Light EMRG
If you are looking for something a little smaller, you might consider the EMRG model. Its about 3/4th the size of the standard models, and slightly less weight. However, if you want lots of illumination, you might want to stick with the larger models. That said, I used mine for over two 14-day canoe trips this past summer, without a hiccup. I didn't use it a lot each evening, but I also didn't set it out to charge but maybe once a week. I can say, that I'm complete satisfied with its performance for what I needed.
One issue I had was finding the on-off switch in the dark. You can feel for it, but it is only a very slight depression in the top of the unit. I suppose after several days of your hands getting a beating in the bush, they are less nimble. On my second trip, I added an very small adhesive-backed rubber bumper ... problem solved. Feeling a slight elevation is much easier than finding the depression, and because the bumper is rubber, it flexes as you depress the switch.

I have three Luci Lights, I've had them going on 4 years next summer. No problems with any of them, they still all charge up fine and hold their charges a long time. I keep them in the house where they won't freeze and not stored out side like most of other gear, I don't know if that makes any differance but it makes me feel better. FRED
Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked, the good fourtune to remember the ones do, and the eyesight to tell the differance.

We have 3 now and never a problem with any. First one was 2014 I guess? We live at the end of the road so power outages are the norm. Ours get used frequently and nary an issue.

I prefer the LuminAid lights myself. They come in a collapsible square or a pillow type lantern. Last 10-11 hours on a full charge. I just clip them to a backpack while traveling or leave them in camp to charge during the day.
Had a Luci Light for 1 trip before the plastic base cracked. The LuminAid light seem higher quality in my opinion and they don't have the plastic plates in the top and bottom which break easily (in my experience).
The collapsible lanterns have been one of my favorite pieces of gear to come out in the last few years. Such an upgrade over the older options.

Bigcurrent,
I have also been looking at the Luminaid Packlight Nova. It is 5 oz. (4.65 " x 4.75 " high} and like you say it seems to pack down more tightly in a collapsible square than the round Luci Light. The frosted body also seems to be more eye friendly for lighting too.
Very positive reviews for both models.
If you want ultralight ... I like Denton Doc's recommendation and going with the Luci EMRG as it comes in at only 2.4 oz.

got one as present and like it a lot. I think if you search you will find a thread on this board about complaints on them failing. We have had no problem with our. Ours is clear but the frosted ones they have now look like they put out nicer light. Also not sure why they have the flashing light setting.
there are worse ways to spend $$.. ...these are pretty nice.

I love the frosted material. Still gives of plenty of light and turns it more ambient than direct. Checked their website after posting and it looks like they have some a new bigger model, the Nova and some other new stuff.
I don't think you can go wrong with either company, i personally just prefer the LuminAids.
