Starting to think about next years solo and was wondering if anyone has some impute on "The Triple K Loop" from Robert Beymer's Quetico book. It goes through the falls chain and then Kawnipi, Kahahpiwish, Knife and a bunch in between. Planning on doing it in mid-June over about 10 days. Thanks!!

I have done this loop about four times over the years, although starting at Moose Lake and entering Canada at Prairie Portage. Both clockwise and counterclockwise. Loop direction choice made each time at PP, based on the wind direction and speed due to the danger of Bayley Bay. The eastern part of the loop we have done through the Man Chain, crossed Sag to Sag on the Dead Man's Portage, done the full Falls Chain, the full length of Kawnipi, ran the rapids at the NW end, then gone south through Kahsh, Isabella, North Bay, Burke, Bayley Bay and out (or the same trip clockwise). Always with a crew of at least two canoes (my wife's rule), and double portaging.
This represents about 7 days of canoe travel, plus about 3 layover days if you like to fish. This is a very nice trip.

You don't say what you are looking for, so it's a little hard to comment. How important is solitude to you? I assume going from Kahshapiwi to Knife would send you through Prairie Portage. I wouldn't want to pass through there because it's such a popular entry point. It would feel like going to town to me compared to the interior of the Q. Fine to leave from there, and then return there, but I wouldn't loop through there. Granted, it's not peak season yet in late June, but still. I also wouldn't choose Knife, just because you are paying Quetico prices to paddle on a BWCA lake. But these are just my opinions. This sort of thing might not bother you.

Whatever you do ; Never take Bailey Bay for granted.

You bring up some great points, I'm going to be rethinking the route. Solitude, photography and fishing are the most important to me, in that order. Might loop back through the Man chain rather then Knife, but would still have to go through Prairie Portage. It's a work in progress ;), thanks for the impute!
