You would if the lake was "on" that day, but it wasn't...probably because they were not there at first light, which is critical on Stub. Anyway, Stub is what we call a sleeper lake up here...a tiny gem among many larger and more famous lakes.

On a side note, I guarantee John did NOT holler "Get the frabil" on the Ely episode, but I know what you're saying, too; he's definitely passionate about fishing! Put yourself in his shoes though and imagine being in your 60's and producing a weekly TV show that was filmed just 2-3 days prior to air-time, and consistently being on fish and putting out a good show, year after year after year...and doing it where and how any regular Joe can go on a budget. I think he does a pretty damn good job and I enjoy actually his enthusiastic antics. If the show ceased tomorrow I'd be bummed because quite frankly it's entertaining! The only thing that could make it better is if he got Hamms as a sponsor instead of PBR;)

I will routinely mute the tv when watching Gillespie. Entertainment without the hype. (Does he not know that he says the same thing over and over every take?)

True story: He called me once. My phone number was one digit away from his daughter's and I recognized his voice. He confirmed his identity when I asked.

Ya know his show used to annoy me with the over the top promotions, but now I just enjoy it for what it is. He goes to areas I could go to myself, which I appreciate and the gratuitous advertising plugs now make me laugh, it s part of the show---I'd probably miss them now if he changed :)

So you must watch his show then to recognize his voice. Awesome!

Earlier in 2016 John was in Canada and caught a big musky on a tip up during closed season with Pete Mania. They stated they were targeting Pike. Large treble, large bait, world renowned musky lake.... but they are targeting pike so it's all good. Can you imagine what would happen on this site if someone posted a picture of a big lake trout out of the water with a spoon in it's mouth during closed season even if they stated they were targeting pike?

There was also a show on petenwell or fox lake where it was obvious all the crappies being reeled in had been dead for some time. At one point John comments about a big mark and is shown reeling in a dead fish. The vexilar was off and the transducer was never in the hole. Anything for sponsors.

I've fished twice with Jeff Winters out of Boulder Junction who was a guide on the show. Great guy. I got his number off the show. He really like JG, says he is fun to fish with. I started hitting some Wi spots the last couple years because of the interest I got from watching the show. Willow Flowage, Turtle Flambeau, Boulder Junction area. Some great spots half the distance away that BW. Very easy for long weekend trips and not 9-10 hours away. You have to admire that he puts out a new different show 52 weeks a year, and he fishes in all types of crazy weather. Jeff said he takes pride in that. I'm a big fan. I've tuned out the 'get the Frabill!' overkill, it's part of his schtick, show lots of enthusiasm. Great show, I record and watch it every week.
