Still hanging out but not posting much lately. Coaching 4th and 6th grade basketball teams doesn't give me much time to sit down and relax. Plans for 2017 include a solo, daddy/daughter trip (younger 9yo's turn this year) week long cabin stay up the Gunflint trail w/ the family, and of course Moose Madness weekend in Grand Marais in Oct. Moose Madness weekend is my daughters' favorite family tradition.

Still here, no trip plans as of now. If I do it will be in the fall and the simplest, easiest thing I can dream up.

Bapabear here. Hope abounds for a canoe camp trip in BW and some river trips in WI. Two years with cancer issues that prevented them appear to be behind me. Prayers for health and happiness to all.

Still kicking; although not quite as high as I used to be able kick.
Turned 74 on the 26th of December.
Looking forward to putting in more seat time in canoes, and on my motorcycles in the coming year.
Best wishes for a Happy New Year to all BWCA paddlers.

Linden is still here.
I'll be paddling and riding Moose in AK again. I go back there mid March. Not sure if I will retire after this year or hang around up here for couple more.
Pic was fighting a fire in a Wilderness area, we couldn't use ATV's so I commandeered this Moose.

May the rivers be crooked and winding, and your portages lonesome, leading to the most amazing view.

Still here. I am not sure if a canoe trip is in the cards this year and will take a wait and see.......... maybe October? In the mean time I will work on another cedar strip canoe. Kind regards to all who wander here.

Still here! No definite plans yet. We might go west and spend a little time with BlueSkiesWI in Utah. Might try a new area in BW. We haven't been to Sylvania in a long time. And our daughter is on the east coast. Heck, maybe I'll do it all. Camping is cheap.

Joy is a great teacher, but so is dispair. Wonder is a great teacher, but so is confusion. Hope is a great teacher, but so is disillusionment. And life is a great teacher, but so is death. To deny yourself any of those in any aspect is not experiencing life totally.

Still vertical.....
while company was arriving out at home I was out operating on a cow for a right sided twisted stomach....may have been a waste of time but have to go through the motions.
Gonna be hard to beat 2016...we got a lot of camping/ paddling in. We got to put our SR canoe in the waters of Lake Louise in Alberta (only green canoe with a whole lot to red rentals), Glacier NP in Waterton, The Current River in Missouri this fall, a week long trio to Polly and Malberg Lakes this summer, grandma/grandpa outing with two granddaughters at Gov Thompson State park here is Wisconsin ( Old Town Otters are great for little kids to get some paddling experience) and several other places that I can't think of right now. My wife figures we slept on the ground almost two months this past year....but we will be both 67 this year and don't feel too guilty about putting on the answering machine and a closed sign on the door.
Was hoping for some chance to get one of the group campsites at Fall Lake CG this summer for several days but it looks just about impossible....
Happy New years to all

Here. Planning a trip with my daughter Allie and her boyfriend Mark. Last year he ended up with mono and was unable to join us in our trip, and on day one Allie got sick and turned out to also have mono. Must not happen this time! It will be Mark's first trip. Also planning a Hunter's Island solo, and hope to have a couple of fellow members aboard for all or part of that trip. Most pressing plan is to paint my mom's garage! Happy new year, all, and safe travels to everyone.

Still lurking but not as often as I'd like. 2016 was a busy year full of fun, unexpected adventures and some not-so-fun family stuff as well. Moved my mom, in the throes of Alzheimer's, in to a memory care facility and we continue to try to pick up the pieces of her life. Just finished nursing hubby back from his second knee replacement (not so fun at first but the long term benefits are going to be great!)
In between we camped in our new teardrop trailer, I managed two BW trips and we had an unexpected but very fun trip to the Netherlands and Ireland. First time outside of the US or Canada for both me and hubby. It was grand.
We spent New Year's weekend at a cabin at the end of the Gunflint Trail. I spent the whole drive home late yesterday plotting to return this winter and hoping that the soft water season will bring us at least a couple of short trips in to canoe country. Vacation time is scarce this year after the big unplanned trip this fall.
This is from a trip to Lake Polly last summer. I'm in the bow and my dear friend Luft is in the stern.

This site is a big source of entertainment/enjoyment for me so I dread the "slow" season from October to January. Glad it's now officially planning season so I am looking forward to more activity.
Hoped for three trips in 2016, got one. Hope the cards fall differently in 2017 and I get at least 2. Still kicking that whole "solo" idea around. Sometimes it is the only way you can go, we shall see. Group solos sound interesting.
Though I don't know many of you personally I have an interest in your thoughts and your experiences and feel like I know some of you. That's pretty cool.
Good luck on whatever pursuits you follow in 2017, hope the BWCA fever doesn't get left behind.

Present and accounted for, still flipping pancakes.
No plans for a trip this year of yet, but hopeful I might be able to pull off either a family canoe trip in July or BWCA in September.

Alive and well! I've been absent for a year or two, two young girls (yrs, 2 and 4) have kept me on my toes! I am excited to say thought, 2017 may be the year I venture back into the woods, with both of my daughters with me. No trip planned yet, but excited to start planning. May the wind be at your back and your portage's be flat !!!

Here!
Not entirely sure if we're doing a trip or not this year. Have too many others on the bucket list.
Maybe a quick one. We'll see if we can squeeze one in.

This year we are planning to fly to Duluth and rent a car to go on up to Quetico. We have driven up from South Georgia almost every year since 1978. The drive is finally getting too hard. Since we are flying we probably will just go to our camp that is in Canada near the French Lake entrance. Can make day trips from there. Will not have our camping gear so will not make interior trips to Quetico. Will still make canoe trips into Quetico in years that children or grandchildren come to visit. We ae friends with both outfitters that are located near French Lake so we will use one of them to outfit those future trips. I hope that they don't wait too long to come back North.

UP Boy is still alive and kicking. Celebrating 1 year of retirement and loving every day.
Took 3 trips last year and already have 2 planned for this year and maybe more. Highlight last year was taking my oldest grandson (3 years old) on a Boundary Waters canoe trip. Going again this spring and looking forward to it.

I guess we're admitting where we are going this year, so I can say it too...
We're starting at Homer Lake, and then exploring that area. Also a trip to Ottawa National Forest (Sylvania) in Michigan.
