I know Iron Lake is great fishing in May and June. I may go their the last week of August with my sons. We like the looks of the Southern end. I do notice it is quite shallow near Peterson's Bay. Where would I try fishing Southern Iron the Last Week of August?

Last week of August, fish are likely to still be deeper, moving into shallow waters early and later in the day. There are contour maps available that will show locations. I would begin by focusing on islands and reefs letting the fish tell me what they want and where they are. I would start where prevailing winds are schooling baitfish and in wind currents.

No matter what time of year, you can yank big smallies all over the place on iron. Caught a 43" pike in Peterson bay last year. Lots of walleye on the humps and in holes around moving water. I love fishing Iron. My last trip was last week of July, first week of August.

quote fishnfreak: "I've fished Iron in August. Fish mid lake humps in 15-30 ft of water. work the wind swept side of the humps. You can't go wrong with fishing the moving water out of curtain falls and Peterson bay areas either."
+1-- Excellent info.
