Sure - there 3 times. The burn is recovering right on schedule. South side of lakes 1 and 2 are still looking like burnt sticks standing up with green fluff around their bottoms. Lakes 3 and 4 have more dammage but many of the sites had water dumped on the during the burn so they are pretty good. South side of 3 and all of 4 are still pretty bad - no trees tall enough for a pack tree ect. South main body of Hudson is still pretty burnt out as is the south half of Insula. Most of the tree regrowth comes at a rate of about a foot+ a year - on average - so 2011 to 2016 yeilds trees about a little taller than I am - but not 10 ft as yet.
GrandmaL hit it right on. We went to Insula last summer and it was pretty cool to see the recovery. It looked like a lot of the sites we went past were open but would be less than desirable to camp at in my mind as all the trees looked to be about 6' tall, the only thing taller being the burnt trees that are yet to tip over. What really surprised me was how fast you can go from a completely burnt area to an area that was untouched. I cannot imagine the ferocity at which that fire moved through that area.
