We will do a trip down the Kishwakee Saturday before the potluck.

Bob,
Thanks for organizing this Rockford Wing Night.
I couldn't make it last year as I am a Agricultural Chemical salesman and I was busy with corn and soybean planting and spraying in my sales territory west of Rockford.
I will try and make it this year depending on how busy it is the first weekend in May.

Hey! For the first time it looks like I don't have a conflict on the calendar! I may make this one & have one or more of the kids in tow.

Count me in Bob! The Mrs. is scheduled to work that weekend, (such is the life of a nurse), but she will attempt to get off for the event!

Ok. So it is kind of a group camp out then? According to google maps the address is right in the middle of three different county forest preserves. Do people camp at one of the forest preserves? It also seems very close to rt 39.
I have heard good things about paddling the Kishwaukee river. Where would people put in and take out at?

Bob, the sponsor of this weekend, is part of a club that owns land along the river near the forest preserves. There is ample area for whoever comes to pitch a tent and there are outhouses. Anyone who comes is invited for one day or the weekend.
Saturday morning, when everyone gets around to it, a caravan is organized to ferry those who are going to a spot up the river, from which the participants paddle down the river and take out at the campsite. There are then cars available to get you back upriver to pick up your car.
There is always a group campfire, lots of storytelling, some music, some knowledge sharing, and a lot of eating. Did I mention some drinking may go on?
There are often children around so it is family friendly.
Since this started we have always been treated to good weather, and great company.

The put in is at a boat landing in a city park in Cherry Valley, Illinois. Plenty of parking. No worries about your vehicle being left there.
I set a goal of losing 10 lbs. this year. I only have 15 left to lose.

You are correct. It's surrounded by forest preserves. It's basically a private forest preserve consisting of 74 acres and two hundred feet of frontage along the Kishwaukee river. Plenty of room for everyone!

Cosmically, it would figure that something would come up.... Now our troop's annual pancake breakfast is that Saturday. I tell you, one of these times I'm gonna make one of these things.

I'll continue the tradition of bringing the smoker and a couple pork butts.
Regarding the Saturday paddle, since we did the South Branch last year, any preferences on South Branch vs. Baumann put-in? Gunner likes the South Branch bridge...

Could be at Baumann, or last year we did the South Branch and put in at Oak Ridge Forest Preserve on Blomberg Road. Whichever folks want to do..."
Thanks.....I see that one too.

Those that want to paddle Saturday should bring an extra set of clothes in a water tight container just incase something happens. The water is cold. We had frost this morning. The river is also running high, but still within its banks. Cya all Friday or Saturday!

When are folks mostly arriving on Friday?"
Yes, well-behaved dogs are welcome. My old Brittany Gunner will be there...he's a bit surly toward other dogs but he's basically harmless. I'll be at the park by 2pm.

Wish I could make it.
Just a busy time of year for me. I am a agricultural chemical co. rep and we will be planting corn this weekend east of Rockford. Finally starting to dry out.
Have fun and take some pics. I can't wait to retire in a couple of years and be able to attend Rockford Wing Nights. The Pecatonica River is a great paddle and the camaraderie can not be beat.

Arrived early Friday and promptly broke Bob"s mower. My way of getting him to have a beer with me! Fun had, excellent Bluegill dinner! Many lies told.
Thanks!

I'm devastated that I couldn't make it. This is a premier event and I had a perfect attendance record. I don't remember all of it but I know I was there, I have photos.

Had a good time. The grounds were spotless. I walked the trails around the camping area and down by the river. Everything was well maintained. It is a beautiful place and the weekend was spent with nice people. It made a good spring time break.
Thanks Bob for hosting.

Great time. Thanks Bob for hosting! Good to see everyone and great stories were shared. Lauren had a nice tell as well. Thank you all for being so welcoming to her as well. She can be rather social once she warms up.
