I just saw the Stanley Adventure Series Base Camp Cook Set at my local Menards for $55. REI has then for $80.

Some info on me: My BWCA group is a group of 4, and my family is 4. We cook on a mix between the campfire and a Primus Classic stove. Most meals in the BW are MRE, oatmeal, or fish and some simple sides. Currently we each bring our own plates, bowls, and utensils, and I bring a frying pan and pot for boiling water for the group. Looking to consolidate. Ultra-lightweight is not a concern for me.

I can't find any reviews on it, but most other Stanley Adventure Series products get high ratings.

I'm thinking that this would make a great set for me. Is there something I am missing or a better set for comparable money?

At least it's dishwasher safe... now you have to portage a dish washer. Haha! Looks ok, as long as you can keep stuff from sticking and burning on the fry pan. Looks like a ss lid, but they talk about it being bpa free. Usually I thought that was a plastic concern. Consider the weight and all too. Compare closely as some companies sell knock offs to the discount stores. Rei would give you $8 back on your dividend. If you don't like it you would have a better chance returning it to rei.

I have used titanium, anodized, aluminum, cast iron and even the Sea to Summit collapsible pots. It all works. It is mostly about preference. You can buy inexpensive sets where you may have to bend things back in shape once in a while or you can buy expensive sets that may or may not last a lifetime. I have even cooked eggs in half an orange peel directly in a fire. Like I said, it all works.
My current set up, is bastardized from several pieces I collected over the years.

Much like Scout 64 we are using an odd collection of mostly small MSR lightweight non stick aluminum cookware. It nest well enough, very light and meets our needs. It's just my son and I and we have narrowed down our gourmet meals to simpler boil and eat type food. Except for fish nights we go with one pot one meal rules. The way we got to here is we had to decide how much cooking, cleaning, preparing and food weight we were willing to portage and this is where we landed. Works for us. I'm sure others bring cast iron Dutch ovens etc... it's just not for us. Good Luck.

I have the Stanley Adventure and the Prep & Cook sets in my collection of cookware. I have had no problems with them. They are very durable. Walmart had the lowest price for those kits. I have not seen the Base Camp set there. Looks nice.

I was recently enchanted by the GSI cook sets on my most recent visit to REI. Lots of good stuff that packs neatly and efficiently into a reasonable size/weight. This is way more stuff than I'd ever need as all my camping is done solo or duo. It also costs quite a bit, but it's a neat concept.

GSI Pinnacle camp kitchen set

We also tend to just drink out of Nalgene bottles and eat meals out of our freeze dried pouches, but on river trips where we don't have to portage, we will bring real food so this would still be somewhat useful. If it somehow included eating utensils, it might be just about perfect.

If I ever had a trip where there were three or more guys going and weight isn't as important a factor, I might consider it.

The Stanley set looks good. You could easily make a bail handle for that big pot and then use the fire to cook.

I've got to do something along the lines of a cook set. I just can't pull the trigger.....

I have some older than me aluminum cook sets I really would like to upgrade. I typically travel with 6-9 people so weight not a major issue. Would like to have stuff that nests well like the GSI. Looking to do more backpacking trips with my family and that means stuff for 6. Maybe a nice 4 person set plus a second smaller two person GSI would work. We can add a few extra items for larger than 6 groups I suppose.

I went ahead and bought the Stanley Base Camp set. For the price, I couldn't find anything that I liked better. I'm excited to use it this summer. I'll try and post a review when I have some real world experience with it.

I do like the spatula, serving spoon, and strainer lid on the Stanely set.

I think you'll be happy with that kit.

That looks like a nice set. A few years back I bought this set and I really like it. You can take or leave some of the pots/pans depending on the group size. Cheap and has last me 120+ days of camping so far in the bwca.
