I seem to remember that this area had a wing nite last fall, but I was still in Alaska.
I have been a member 3+ years but have only met two members. (BeaV & BlueskiesWI)
I have to return to AK on March 5th and will be gone for 8 months.
I was wondering if anyone was available for a small get together before I go?
Even if I only met one or two of you fellow paddlers, I would consider it a great honor.

I am available anytime between March 1-4 but the 3rd/Friday would work out best, since I have to catch a 7:00 am flight to Anchorage on the 5th.

I was thinking about this pub, it is in Hermantown and is quiet as well as spacious, it's called the Beacon.
Any thoughts?
PS, Friday the 3rd they have an all you can eat fish fry for 10.95.
Their food is good. But I'm open to anything.

I'm working, have doctor appointment in Hibbing... But I think I can pull away... Then back home. Work on Saturday some, funeral and hit cities for wing night down there.

Id be up for a get together. Pretty flexible on dates. I just bought a pack from a member and we discussed a meet up. RoundRiver, you out there. How about Marty-H20, you still around? Chilly?????

I wouldn't call the Beacon a pub, more of a dive although it's been years since I've been there.

Thanks but I have to catch a flight out at 07:00 the next morning 3/5/17.
Rain gear, they fixed the Beacon up a few years ago, it's nice inside, the outside still looks like a dive, but I'm up for anything, I just threw out the Beacon.

I can't fully commit, but if something gets put together I'll try to make it!

I prefer no to do it Saturday nite since I fly out at 7:00 am on the 5th and I really should spend it with my wife.

Stick with Friday. It suits your needs better and you're the one getting it set up.

Like Linden, I don't get many opportunities to meet other members since I live so far away (WV), so I try to meet with anyone available when I get up there. I'll be in Duluth on Sept 9th, I'll be dining at Duluth Grill, and you're welcome to join me (us). I'll post again a short time before I leave WV. I'll also be dining in Grand Marais on Sept. 10th, 16th, 24th, and possibly the 15th. More details later.

I'd be interested in the September meeting as well. Duluth Grill is a favorite restaurant!

This location will save 15-20 minutes each way for people arriving from the West, is 3.5 Miles from my place, and in Hermantown where a couple others live, that have shown interest.

This is looking to be great, I stopped by the Beacon today to confirm that it was Ok with them Friday evening.
It sounds like its fine for ~8 people to gaggle up there at a table.

Crap Mark, I thought we were leaving next week for our trip. Haha. First time in a while I feel a glimmer of hope. It's been a hard road. Hopefully getting other side done next week. I'm supposed to wear my neck brace... so I'll be good and wear it down there. Your wanting me to get awfully healthy, I hope I'm not going to be expected to carry your stuff too... Hahahaha!

As promised here are a couple pictures from last nights wing nite at the Beacon Bar in Hermantown, MN.
It was particularly fun for me because I had the pleasure of putting faces and names of other BWCAers together. We had 7 people including myself, which I thought was great, I really only expected to get a few together. 3 of us live within 5 miles of each other on either side of the Beacon. Farthest travelers were NCTRY from Goodland, and Bellolake from Deer River. Closest was JohnM from 2 houses west of the Beacon.
At least 4 of us have done a few solo's. Wables showed us pictures of the 3 cedar strippers he has built.
There was a new member that attended, VOBS/Joel, he paddles a lot in the BWCA and visits the BWCA site, I think a friend told him to come to the event. Joel also won the Fish prize by taking full advantage of the "All you can eat" fish fry :-)
The last of us left about 9:00 pm when the band started up.
Bellolake/Santa ;-) is coming to AK next August on his motorbike, I'm guessing the Reindeer are laid off in the summer, I offered up my solo to him if he makes it to the Kenai Peninsula,

It's a ways out there, but I'm sure I can join you in either Duluth or Grand Marais or both. I'm in Grand Marias much of the fall or in between the cities and Grand Marais. I would enjoy meeting some folks from BWCA.com in person as well.

Similar - I've been a member for several years but have not met anyone in person. Unfortunately, couldn't make it but could maybe catch you on your return depending on timing.

Linden, you had a good turnout - a little too far for me to drive up for the evening ;), but one of these days we might connect.

Hoaf, JohnMN, & others - I hope we're able to connect in the fall. I'll leave WV on Sept 8th and will post about it a week or so before then.
