~6 of us are looking at a Memorial Day trip to Trout Lake. My brother has stayed on Trout before, while we've made a few trips to base camp on Pine. We will probably head out there on Thursday and usually plan to come back on Monday. We will take some day trips to Pine, Little Trout, Merritt, Oriniak, and maaaaaybe Chad.

Any tips for fishing on Trout/other lakes? We know Pine pretty well, but not so much the others listed. We'd like to go for some lakers, so any tips on those would be nice. I know it's hard to predict exactly when ice will be off the lakes, but how will this years weather affect the early year spawn?

20 years ago I got a 21 pound Northern in Oriniak , and lots of nice eater Walleyes. It used to be great. Since then the locals tell me that the fishing has steadily declined. It gets hit pretty hard in the winter with fishermen coming in from the north. I guess there's a old logging road that they walk in from. I would probably skip Oriniak and concentrate on other lakes. BUCK!!!!

I've heard good things about Buck. Depending on what canoes we bring, I might see if someone wants to take a trip out there.

We fished Orniak many years ago and we caught many eater-size walleyes. I've stayed on Pine and also caught many eater-size walleyes with some being above average. I would love to hear about your venture into Merritt.
