It's impulse buys like this that limit my 100 fish days. I got the 4 inch, 1 oz version. It has some great action I don't see why it wouldn't catch bass and pike in the BW but I'll have to wait a few more months. Something morbid about fish eating ducks I have to find out for myself. Early June trip so I would think there will be numerous baby mallards and meganizers swimming around. I took the barbs off as I can see some missed hook sets and this thing flying back towards the yak.

Savage Gear? I took a peek at one.......they look good to me. I like Savage Gears stuff, had good luck on it. Smaller than what I thought but thats probably good. I bet a smally would eat the thing as well.

How many times have you seen a momma duck with just one little one?......the rest have become fish food probably.

I definitely want to see a post if this thing works, especially for big pike.

You guys better not let your wives ever see your tackle or they will be running to the shoe stores to get even with you.

I took it down to the lake yesterday for a test drive. It has great action with the feet acting as propellers. Hilarious as people were at the boat launch feeding the ducks and geese.

YouTube reviews on it are mostly bad, but I did find a clip of a wells catfish eating one.

Ha! That is an awesome video. That was one bad, big catfish.......what an aggressive strike!
What a beautiful fish!

Who cares what the other reviews are.......I bet you will nail a beauty with that thing, but first you have to get it wet ;-)

I would leave it rigged on another rod and every 20 minutes I would throw it out for only a cast or two and then move on while fishing my other rod. Before the days out something will eat it. Don't be afraid to fish it mid-day with a bit of a riffle on the water either especially early in the summer. You will likely go a long time without even a sniff and then Ker-pow! But you have to BELIEVE! Ever notice how some fishermen seem to "will" a fish on their line? Thats because they believe they are about to get chewed......even after 5 hours of nothing they still believe it will be the next cast.

Heres another thought.........why not put that thing way back while traveling and troll it? Doesn't interfere with paddling much as it doesn't have much drag nor does it get hung.

This thing looks awesome. I can imagine huge BW pike really liking it.

Did anyone try it this spring?

I'll be trying it next week in the BW. Haven't liked it so far in SE WI. It has great action, you can cast it a mile. But, I'm not a fan of the hooks. The top hook pops into a clip that is suppose to release on a strike. It doesn't always do that. I've missed a lot of fish, I don't have that issue with the rat. It comes with an extra hook you can attach to the underside when fishing areas that are not weed choked. Maybe that will help out with success rates in the BW. I'll be dragging it behind the canoe anytime we're traveling.

My experience is similar to what Flambeau described above. I used the small Wood Duck colored one on Saturday Bay a couple weeks ago and got A LOT of hits on it but few hookups. One northern attacked it four (!) times before getting hooked. The action of this lure is fantastic, but the default hook arrangement is not great. Out of the package it has one treble on top between the feet/props, and one on the bottom near the front. Both hooks are removable, and it comes with a solid wire stinger that can be used on the top or bottom. I didn't bring the stinger with on the trip but I'm thinking of putting it on the top hook, so the hook trails behind the feet, unobstructed and in the bubble trail. If you put the stinger on the bottom, it places the hook directly beneath the other one (again between the feet). I still need to experiment some more, but once the hook issue is solved, this lure will be dynamite. Try walking the dog or simple stop/start retrieving with it and you'll see what I mean...

OK....sounds good. They want to eat it but hooking sort of sucks. I wonder if a set of Owner frog hooks as the stinger might be the solution?

I think I have addressed the hooking ability issue via adding a 4/0 Owner double frog hook. Dispense with the short wire rod and extra feathered treble hook supplied with the lure.

Instead slide the double hook onto the lures belly wire loop located underside near the head. The small "clip" which was meant to hold the short wire rod grips the Frog hook in position.......like it was made for it. Perfect!

What good is a lure if it doesn't stick em.

I wasn't exactly on "big pike" water but I didn't catch a fish on it when I was up in the BW. Lots of blowups, no hook ups... repeat. I only saw one pike over 24" the whole week. Maybe that was the problem. I would still take it the Quetico or other portions of the BW were pike tend to be bigger. Maybe this winter I'll get around to editing some of the footage comparing the two.

The savage rat had no problem hooking the hammer handles and bass.

I honestly wouldn't even fish the duckie without the addition of the double frog hook. They should sell the thing with the double hook included........honestly, it seems like the clip is made for it. Use the Owner frog hooks as opposed to gamakatsu. Didn't care for the gama frog hook so much.

I had to pick up a rat......to cool to resist. Don't think I have got it wet yet.

my friend's son had a rat. on a lake in the UP he had so much topwater pike action on it that by the end of the week the lure was destroyed.

Well a fellow has to post the good, the bad and the ugly. I fished some places on Isle Royale where I know the pike had a real good look at my Suicide Duck. 6 ft crystal clear bays which had some super tankers around that you could actually see if you went out early and were quiet.

I figured the duckie would be the ticket, especially with so much waterfowl around. Plus it would be a lure which probably nobody has thrown at them.

No dice........even worse was no follows. But to be honest I like the lure now more than ever. It's gonna catch fish, I have no doubt. I would like to see how it does in dark water like the Quetico. I also believe that big smallies will crash the thing as well. It is more versatile than I thought and can also be used as a popper of sorts. Lastly, it makes for an excellent trolling lure, particularly on travel days. Chunk the thing back, use braid, have the rod high in the air to keep the line out of the water and paddle away. No need to concern yourself if the lure is going to get hung. Then when that noise occurs which resembles a bathtub falling into the water make sure you grab the rod.

Lastly, as per the advice already posted add the double frog hook. The built in clip holds a 4/0 owner perfectly. Otherwise you will probably get lucky to hook something as the hooking ability is lacking on this lure.

Seems like this lure catches more fisherman than fish?

This guy added a stinger hook in the middle of his trip and managed to hook up with two pike:

Sort of a fun video. My guess is most of his misses are from small fish........but hey, they definitely want to eat the thing.

I'm going to sound like a broken record. The lure is going to take fish, probably some very nice ones at that. But, you simply must add the Owner double frog hook (the biggest frog hook owner makes on the larger duck......4/0 or 5/0). The hook actually snaps into a clip on the lues belly like it was custom made. I would be interested to see how gamakatsu frog hooks would do as well as they are made a little differently.

Even though I struck out at Isle Royale with this I will be fishing it ......alot! I like it and can see fish blowing up on it. Will the addition of the Owner hook solve the hook up percentage? It will likely help substantially is my take but like all topwaters hooking ability is often sketchy. Anyway, the thing is fun to fish with and does inspire confidence when you watch it (if I were a fish I would eat that ;-)
